He said this “this is what society has shown him, that black people do, Muslims do - this is what society has wrongly shown him, this is what the media have wrongly portrayed to him".
Which I absolutely agree with.

And what he also said that Neeson was right to admit it, and right to challenge his own prejudices, which led him to become "disgusted" with himself.
His point was that it was important to be honest, rather than hiding his feelings, it allows us to address subconscious racism within society. |

I think John Barnes is spot on and fair play to Liam to admit that, but there are too many idiots in the world who are going to hear a snippet of the interview and/or take it out of context.

Same. People will argue about anything without the whole picture or all facts taken into consideration. Boredom and a lack of intelligence, probably, |

agenda—noun, formally a plural of agendum, but usually used as a singular with plural a·gen·das or a·gen·da.
a list, plan, outline, or the like, of things to be done, matters to be acted or voted upon, etc.:
Or so the dictionary says .. |

What do you think the medal would be for though?
It would be for admitting there’s an ingrained problem in society and realising the problem
In himself, not a bad thing at all surely. |

Fucked if I know, Bob. I'm not the one saying that some posters have an agenda, but refusing to explain what that agenda is.
My point was that assumption of agenda doesn't make someone a racist, it rather depends on what they assume the agenda to be... |

The question is, would Neeson have similarly gone out with the intention to beat up an Italian, or a ginger-haired man, or a skinhead if one of those groups had assaulted his friend?

Well its his opinion most of us are too young to remember Churchill. Me for one couldn't comment on Winston as I don't know the facts. I respect his opinion though the guy has been involved in aspects of racism and tackling it over recent years and he did actually see the whole interview before commenting. |

"Context is everything"
I couldn't agree more on that it can change the whole dimensions of things and how it appears we often forget the press and media have a vested interest in things going a bomb. |

"The question is, would Neeson have similarly gone out with the intention to beat up an Italian, or a ginger-haired man, or a skinhead if one of those groups had assaulted his friend?
Sorry, haven't read all the threads.
Yeh but twatting a ginger is encouraged (before you all jump on me ....it's a joke and I'm a ginge so can be gingerist) " .
Flapjacks are one thing but aren't ginger nuts harder |

This..
And had it been Will Smith saying it would some of the reactions have been similar.. "
Exactly. I haven't read a transcript of what he said so don't know if he is actually a racist or not?? I don't think every crime against a black man is racially motivated, though obviously his emotional over-reaction/intention to kill was mindblowing. |

I get the initial anger thing, lashing out is not that uncommon although not the right thing to do and hardly supportive of a friend just having been through a horrendous ordeal..
But that he said it was on his mind for a week is very troubling.. |

That sort of thing can happen with anyone to be honest, no matter what colour or religion.
I mean who wouldn't get angry and seek revenge on the ones they love. It happens all the time, like one time in america there was a story, a coloured bloke was shot dead because he was armed, next thing you know there's riots trying to hunt and kill white policeman. It's been happening since the dawn of man and will always happen. |

Interesting point they both were in agreement on Winston Churchills white supremacy (he was a product of his age) So what were those British commandos doing standing up and fighting against White G.Is for black G.Is during WW2? There have always been people who can smell out bullshit and will stand against it in every generation.Dont let anyone decieve you wrong is wrong wherever and whoever does it.Was Liam Neeson looking to beat up a Blackman who had no involvement in the crime yes,so he was WRONG.There is no justification for praising him...sounds to me like he was behaving like a blinkered idiot. What a load of guff! Should he be hung out to dry for doing what he did NO...unless they find his DNA on some unsolved murder. So for me a non-issue.

Seeking revenge for your loved ones by seeking out the perpetrator is normal. Revenge by attacking anyone who has the same hair colour or shoes or skin colour is ignorant.
It is not justifiable or understandable for black people to kill white police officers because another white officer murdered a black person. It’s not something that just happens. We don’t attack older white men because some older white men have abused children. It’s the normalisation of that behaviour that worries me.
It’s like being in school all over again: being ignorant is cool again |

"If a black woman talks about a topic concerning racism.Do you assume it's agenda driven. If so ..
That racism right fucking there people...
I don't think it's racism to assume that black people have an interest in challenging racism.
So saying it's agenda driven is ok the agenda being what???
Spit it out let's here this agenda.
Fucked if I know, Bob. I'm not the one saying that some posters have an agenda, but refusing to explain what that agenda is.
My point was that assumption of agenda doesn't make someone a racist, it rather depends on what they assume the agenda to be..."
And therein lies the problem. People saying others have an agenda, but then prevaricates when asked what that agenda is. |

"He said this “this is what society has shown him, that black people do, Muslims do - this is what society has wrongly shown him, this is what the media have wrongly portrayed to him".
Which I absolutely agree with.

"Agree with Barnes. Neeson wasn't promoting racism, he was highlighting the way horrible views can get ingrained in almost anyone if they're not careful and self aware. "

He admitted he had thoughts about it and didn’t actually do it. I think you’ll find there’s a lot of people who have thoughts they don’t act on, thankfully. It’s human-frigging-nature.
No one is praising him for wanting to beat anyone up. John Barnes and other people are praising his admission of guilt, feelings of disgust and honesty about how this is ingrained in society. You’ve missed the point entirely and this causes problems, when people don’t look at all the facts. |

Which I absolutely agree with.
And what he also said that Neeson was right to admit it, and right to challenge his own prejudices, which led him to become "disgusted" with himself.
His point was that it was important to be honest, rather than hiding his feelings, it allows us to address subconscious racism within society."
Very much agree, I grew up with racismlite™ it was a background attitude that pervaded but none of my family ever overtly showed or expressed racism, where I lived was a very white part of Scotland at the time.
As I became older I learned to examine and change my prejudice and try to counter early influences. Hopefully I've been successful. I admire his honesty and think it would be better if more could do the same. |

Sadly another example of how being open and honest of our failings is exploited my media.
Was he wrong? Yes. Dies he acknowledge that and is surprised by his own action and recognises the need to grow? Yes.
As far as I'm aware he isn't condoning any of his behaviour.
We've all behaved badly during life I'm sure and had innaporopriate thoughts? But most of us learn.
