OP if you do throw him out you may actually be doing him a favour.

If he is homeless the local authority has a duty to house him and as he has a child he will be a high priority.

They will most likely be put in some sort of temporary accommodation to begin with until a suitable property is found for them but it's a stepping stone to a fresh start for them as a family.

Just give him a few months notice to find himself a place.

It's a tricky situation for you but ultimately he is taking the mickey and you are not responsible for putting him on the street. It is his responsibility.

I Know It's Tricky but ultimately that's probably what he's playing on and banking on that you're not going to see him homeless.

It's a difficult situation but the way I see it is he's probably not gonna get motivated to find somewhere as he hasn't so far, so you've got two options put up or shut up I know that sounds harsh but I don't really know what else to suggest.

He would be a priority for emergency accommodation if he has care of his son because I know you said he's going back to his mum soon but at the moment he's living with his dad.

Under the Duvet

Sorry to hear this, you've been a good friend, especially taking his kid to school etc.

Has he registered with local housing associations as well as the Council?

As you said before, as a single male he probably won't be a priority but some housing assocs have hard to let (sometimes called available now) properties.

I think you are going to have to accept he isn't going to move out in the bad weather but if you can have a proper convo with him (not a shouting match) and try to agree a date (a date, not a month)that he will be out by.

If that still doesn't work you might have consider a lock change, which sounds harsh but might be your last option.

Good luck!

Do you rent your place? A move does sound like a good plan. Your mate doesn't work and is taking the piss? No wonder you're fed up. Hope you can get him out. Feel bad for his son having such a crap dad.

Get the locks changed when hes out?

Invite some hefty mates around?

Give him a date to work towards then stick to it and use the above if you have too.

Where I live local churches offer beds to homeless until end of march and also a guaranteed bed if temperature drops below zero. Not ideal but needs sorting.

It’s time to give him a time scale. 2 weeks to get out. (Or something) gotta be hard sometimes with people as they will , and it sounds like he is, take the piss out of people’s good nature.
