Folks I work with a guy and he simply wont shut up. We are currently implementing a new IT system which will rectify a lot of current issues. But he won’t shut up about the issues the IT system will rectify. Is there a term

"I've no idea if there's a term, but have you tried just telling him to shut the fuck up, you're not interested?" He has been told repeatedly. He keeps harping on about this issue. It’s been ongoing for over two years and we are 3 weeks away from a new IT system to rectify it and out of the blue he won’t fuck up! I swear like a bloody child. I suppose I’m looking to know the medical term.

I knew someone with a mental health issue who became obsessed about things and couldn't stop talking about them. I wouldn't dream of saying your colleague has the same problem, maybe he just needs to have his concerns acknowledged. |

I feel your pain.
I have recently taken over a team of 7 girls, all lovely bar one. She is a nightmare!! Been with the company for years, first off kept telling me how the old manager did things, etc etc! Undermines me, lies to me, shit stirs. Haven't bitten, but have logged enough issues with examples times and dates to be able to call her in for a chat, informally at this point. If it continues then it goes further, she will have a month until an official performance review. Then the monitoring will continue.
Off record my boss hates her wants her gone, I want to give her opportunity to redeem.

Your only prolonging the enevitable.
Go through the motions, let HR take over. |

The trouble is some people (like my self) are prone to get fixated on a task or interest they are passionate about. It may be hard for people to understand but some people just dont get that others heads think like them. Their brains are simply wired a different way. Personally I have over the years started to learn that I'm different and maybe people don't think like me or share the same level of interest (maybe not so much my Woman who bears the brunt of my enthusiasm and high levels of focus). So I have learnt to modify my behaviour with others. I can understand why tgis guy frustrates you but simply some people are wired to be this way and are maybe not self aware that other people are not like them. It's very difficult when people don't understand you and the world seems to play by a whole different set of rules. |

" my situation is the same. I’ve come into a company 6 months ago. The company prior went bust and were taken over. The behaviours are historical and F all to do with me. It’s draining. |

Ok. Well thinking back I've actually known 3 or 4 people like this. One was diagnosed with anxiety, one with an unspecified mental health problem of which obsessive behaviour was a symptom and another it was later realised was in the early stages of dementia.
If and its a huge assumption, your colleague has a health issue that's making them this way, surely that is what needs to be addressed?
However since the implementation of this new system is only a short time away can't you wait and see if their behaviour reverts to "normal" once that happens? |

I’m Defo on the opinion he has behavioural issues. My manager and I have sat him down and explained to him how the new system will improve the process. We’ve explained to him the regional & area directors are aware of the issues and the “fix” is the IT system. Its draining |

I'm not qualified to agree with what you say. When you and the manager explained things to him did you explore further for possible reasons for his concerns? Has your HR dept got any procedures in place to help in such situations? |

"I know the sort as Wafflers :p"
It's more than waffling.
As I said I've known people like this and it is draining and nobody seems to properly understand what its like to work with or deal with them in a family or social situation.
I don't know the answer but I do know it's not something the person can help. |

Just tell him you're a bi-curious swinger who loves sucking sttrangers cocks on weekends -that should end the conversation pretty swiftly if he's straight -if not you may be entering into a shitstorm of unintended consequences |

I’ve got a woman at my work who is totally and utterly incompetent and because she chats and is mates with everyone no one pulls her up on the stupid shit she does and it means she gets away without knowing how to do the simple things never mind the hard things
And she whinges that she can’t do them so I show her and she doesn’t pay attention or listen so she doesn’t learn
I don’t have a word for them she just drives me up the wall with her stupidity |

Tell him to shut up if he is irritating you make sure he gets the message. |

Simply walk away whenever he starts his shit, tell him your not interested and walk away, he'll soon get the hint and if he does continue to do it then you know he's just an ass hole who enjoys winding people up. |

Some harsh replies here.
This guy sounds like he may be on the autistic spectrum but that's just a guess.
Or he may just have genuine concerns about the new system you are implementing.
From experience we htave had three new systems in work over the last 15 years. Every time the managers in IT have told us that they will eradicate any existing problems and will be all singing and dancing.
Guess what, every single time they've not done what was promised and when we've highlighted issues to IT they've shrugged and washed their hands of it, leaving us to find work arounds.
IT bods generally seem to be blinkered and have their own agenda.
In my experience they all have a bit of Sheldon in them and don't take feedback or criticism well. The deadline seems more important than whether the system is actually fit for purpose.
So just maybe it isn't this one guy who is in the wrong here, but the rest of you?
Just a thought. |
