I am thinking of doing a few city breaks across Europe this year, and whilst I do have my own ideas, I was wondering if you great people have had particularly good experiences of any places, or indeed, any places you suggest avoiding? Anywhere is up for consideration, the usual suspects as well as unconventional |

Bruges is good, especially when the twice yearly beer festival is on
I really enjoyed Berlin as well, there's so much to see and a lot of history as well as a good nightlife. Most of it was destroyed in the war and rebuilt later but if you look closely you can still see plenty of evidence of the old Berlin. |

My three favourite cities in Europe (apart from London, of course!) are Berlin, Madrid and Stockholm - couldn't recommend any highly enough!
Not exactly off the beaten track, but not utterly rammed either.
Valencia or Palma di Mallorca also great if you want a Barcelona feel but with about 1/100 of the tourists! |

Krakow is awesome.
Budapest classy.
Berlin nice.
Maastricht is lovely.
Something different though is Dresden. Flattened in the war but rebuilt in the original architecture and is stunning.Fly to Berlin or Prague and get the train there and stay in both places. |

Berlin is a wonderful city would definitely go back, Barcelona and Amsterdam are good too. I liked Venice but felt only a couple of days were needed there for me. Milan is also good as it’s easy to take the train to lake como for the day. |

Off to Valencia next month for a week, so your post just gave me extra cause for optimism, especially as I love the non-touristy bits of Barcelona.
Alicante is another amazing place. |

Rome is great, I went twice last year. Only problem is the sheer amount of beggers, looky looky men and extremely pushy people trying to make you to buy their tours to all the attractions like the colosseum, vatican, Palatine hill etc. I started off polite but after a day of constant hassle from all sides I had to change my tack. |

Amsterdam. You can watch the whole world pass by whilst sat outside a coffee shop. Also, great museums, great nightlife and it's a very clean, safe city. The RLD is worth a visit too |
