"Random question how is the best way to get to sleep when mind won't switch off.. "
I suffered with insomnia for 6 months there going days without a wink of sleep. Unfortunately nothing helped for it, even medication.
Hope you find something that helps

I play the sleepy music, hypnosis doodads on YouTube for a while before I am going to go to sleep... If I was alone I would leave them playing while I slept. Some are pretty good |

Deep slow breathing and being aware of, then relaxing every part of your body starting at the toes and working your way up though your feet, ankles, calves etc right to the top of your head.... I've never made it to the top of my head yet |

Make sure the room is cool. Get rid of as many electrical appliances as you can, and certainly none plugged in near the bed.
No screens for an hour before bed.
Lavender smelly things in the bedroom.
I sometimes listen to the radio on very low (it's the only electrical thing plugged in the room) or a sleep story on my phone.
Slow your breathing down and concentrate on relaxing your muscle groups, legs, back, arms, neck.
I sleep too well!
Good luck |

Might be impossible to do but do you fall asleep on car/train journeys. Buy a ticket for somewhere miles away and get rocked to sleep.
Or have white noise in the background. Or Some sort of light play across a ceiling.
Its all stuff used for babies and children I realise but its all stuff that works on me too. |

BBC iplayer .... radio.....
Chose something to listen too, 15 mins ish. Set it playing switch the light off.... you will be asleep before the 15 mins is up!
Switches off the mind from all the trash keeping you awake |

I'm a terrible sleeper. I find switching off all electronics by a set time and lying in bed to read something easy going helps. If I really can't sleep I keep a notepad by my bed to empty it out of my head then try reading for say 20 minutes to shut down again. |

If I can't switch off I concentrate on my breathing. Listen to & focus on every breath in & out. When a friend suggested it I initially thought "stupid idea, just another thing to think about". Thought I'd give it a go anyway & it works for me every time. Everything else spinning around in my head slowly seems to get pushed out. It's free & no side effects so maybe worth a try. Hope you find something that helps. Sarah. |

Avoid Caffeine after 4pm.
Exercise every day even if it is a twenty minute walk.
Don't drink in the evenings.
Don't smoke.
Do some relaxing things like watch a documentary about landscapes and such like.
Eat something for supper like Digestive Biscuits 9gives a restless stomach something to work on that'll take a while).
Read a book, preferably slow moving, History, Nature, Exploration etc.
Set alarm and get up when it goes off.
Tip... If you wake up and cannot roll over and get back to sleep... just switch yer bedside light on and have another read. Even if it takes till morning. Don't beat yourself up about it. Follow these rules and you will be getting full nights sleep in a few nights. |
