...in unusual / unexpected circumstances.
I've had quite a few - London tube trains, record shops (yes, these did exist once upon a time) etc.
Who have you met? Where was it? What in particular do you remember about them?
I'll start things off...
Chris Eubank, Brighton on New Years Day 2001 outside a Thai restaurant ...we shook hands and his (hands) were enormous! |

I bumped into Rosie from Coranation Street (Kev the mechanics older daughter). She is as gorgeous in reality. Saw her in a motorway services, didn't have the heart to disturb her.
Warwick Davis also in a motorway services. Almost disturbed him, but again, sure he's sick of it and left him be.

I walked past Eubank at Ascot racecourse once. He was wearing a country gentleman's get up, complete with t jacket, walking stick and monacle.
I ran past Jonathon Ross at Wembley during a Michael Jackson concert.
I sang Karaoke at a house party with Michelle Collins.
My next door neighbour was in a band and acted in a television series in 70s.
My sister's partner is the brother of a famous musician and I've met him a few times.
I went to an England and Man United player's wedding and met some other United players.

Probably my favourite was when I worked for a worldwide hotel chain. I rocked into work pregnant and grumpy at 7am to the words ‘a German party walked in last night and booked a room. One of them is famous but I can’t place him’
It was John Lydon. I never got to the bottom of how my colleague thought he was German. He serenaded me with a Vera Lynn classic upon check out. Absolutely lovely bloke. |

"I feel sorry for famous people.
Why? "
Personally I'd hate to not be able to live my life in relative peace without being asked for autographs. Preconceived ideas about who you actually are based on things other people have written. People wanting to get close just because of your fame, or money.
I'd not trade my relative freedom for the money and fame. At least I know my friends like me for who I am.
It must be very hard for them. Yes they're compensated financially, but is that worth the trade off? I don't think so. That's just me though.
It's why I leave them be if I see them out and about. |

But in fairness it's what they sign up to when they choose to put themselves in the public domain.
I think it's their "duty" to be nice to people and give them the time of day because it is the "non famous" who pay their wages all day, every day, even by watching telly.
I don't think the gen public should harrass or stalk of course, that is seriously out of order. |

Great guy as you can imagine but shame to see how we all wind down over time. I asked Richard Fairbrass where the jobcentre was in Soho. We had a good chat.
I stayed in a hostel in London and Geaorge Michael came there for few hours to pot some plants as part of his community service. Really down to Earth guy considering his success.
Had a chat and a fag with Steve Mulhern outside ITV studios when I went to see Saturday Night Takeaway.
Timothy Spall ran away from me in an alley in Regent Street. I was only going to shake his hand! Fucking ran off?
Got pissed with Stu Francis and Duncan Norvelle in Hereford when they did a shows in a hotel I worked at. Also got george mccrae pissed before a show. Got loads more.... but I'll save them for another thread |

Phil Vickory also bought me a pint but again didn't realise who he was lol. Was drinking on 2 different night consecutively with the drummer from Kaiser chiefs, again I didn't realise who he was till the end lol. Oh and Rick Stein, but I just know him. The last person I can remember was Sally Gunnell a few months back, I was checking out of my hotel and she’d returned from a morning run with her partner (or body guard). She didn’t say much but her partner was friendly.

Have met a few in situations you'd expect e.g. on a film set or backstage at gigs etc
A few "bumped intos" though:
Hailed a taxi for a colleague in London that Zoe Ball got out of
Bumped into Stevie Wonder and his entourage who were walking into a club on the street I was walking along
Met Paul Putner (Paul from Fat Fighters on Little Britain) while I was dressed as Maggie Thatcher at Butlins
Rory McGrath asked me the time, and I asked him the Arsenal score at Kings Cross late one night
There's a few more I'm sure but can't think of them right now |

Tony Hawks (the round Ireland with a fridge man not the skateboarder) was a few seats down from me on a train I got to Taunton last year - complete with his dog in a chest pouch.
Jenny Bond (Royal reporter) was sat on the floor of a packed commuter train I was on years ago - unfortunately she was unknowingly flashing her knickers but short of shouting it down the carriage I had no way of saving her modesty.

A world all of his own |
Not met anyone famous personally but a good friend was working for Virgin, years ago, down at Gatwick, in their offices.
She'd gone to get a coffee, walking back to her desk and she rounds a corner, smack into Richard Branson, spilling coffee down herself and down him. The conversation went as follows:
"Fuck I've spilt my coffee!"
"Fuck I've spilt my coffee down Richard Branson!"
"Fuck I'm swearing at Richard Branson!!!"
Apparently he was in stitches of laughter and got on so well with her that he put his daughter with my friend when she did work experience a year or so later |

Chris Eubank, Brighton on New Years Day 2001 outside a Thai restaurant ...we shook hands and his (hands) were enormous!" Aside from the ones I've met via work a couple of favourites spring to mind - Bill Oddie signed an autogtraph for my then girlfriend in Virgin Records in Oxford Street, back when he was still famous for being the only remotely funny one in the Goodies. Billy Boston was a perfect gentleman when I stopped him in the street and told him he was a hero of mine - a politeness only matched by possibly the greatest British footballer ever, John Charles, who was very patient as I almost blubbed over him. |

Had a beer with Jimmy Page in a nightclub in Ibiza.
Went to the club because we heard John Miles was playing a tiny gig in a local club with a few guests...er yeah! (Jimmy Page, Roger Taylor).
Jimmy Page came out to the bar area accompanied by a young lady in the tightest lurex dress I've ever seen & sat down at our table! |

Couple more from gigs I've been at...
Susan Tully ('Chelle off 'Stenders) was stood in front of me at a UB40 gig years ago - blokes behind me kept pestering me to offer her a drink, which I eventually did just to shut them up, she politely declined.
Gwynneth Strong (Cassandra off Fools & Horses) walking through the crowd at Wembley Arena before Madness

I was a caddy for Telly Savalas once in a 1985 Pro/Am golf tournament.
He normally used an electric golf bag but got pissed the night before and forgot to charge it. (That's the story he told me)
He was a nice guy, not very chatty. The going rate for a caddy was £15 for the round and that's exactly at I got. No tip. |

Jimmy Cricket (the comedian not the cartoon!!) was doing a gig at a working men's club I was in. He went to school with my Uncle who was a compare at the club, which is why he agreed to do the gig. I was sat right next to the stage and as I returned to my seat after going to the bar I pointed at him and cut him off mid- flow and said "You are a funny man!!" Cool as a cucumber he replied "I try me best!!" |

We know and met a fair few and where just Mr & Mrs everyday people.
In our experience everyone we know and met there just another person, talk as normal, have some banter, no different to the rest of us day to day.
Never really been star struck but if ever the chance came, me Mr I'd like to meet Sly, have a few training sessions with him in the gym and some banter. |

There have been a few over the years, I've been pretty lucky that work and hobbies have intersected with some remarkable people, but the best of all was having the chance to interview Douglas Adams. He used to have a reputation as a difficult chap to interview, but he was an absolute delight during our time together.

I guess you’re a big Douglas Adams fan given your nickname. |

Found the lead singer of the zutons passed out in my mates hallway about 6 years ago.
He woke up when we checked to see if he was okay, Ended up using my mates loo and chilled with us for a while.
When he said he was the lead singer of the zutons and we googled it, We were absolutely buzzing...
We used to have a drink and go the O2 academy to watch them play when we were 16 |

When I used to work in a Sex Shop in Birmingham, Bobby Davro came in and bought a number of "novelty" vibrators & toys which he said were for his show up the rd at the Hippodrome. Also the singer out of Ocean Colour Scene used to be a regular at the cinema downstairs |

Actually funniest non-celeb I met was a supplier I had a couple of trips to Houston to meet back in the 90s - he worked in Project Management normally but was also a Jack Nicholson look a like that got hired for parties, weddings etc - the only difference was this guy had one lazy eye, but other than that you just couldn't tell, especially if he wore trademark Jack sunglasses.
Was highly amusing watching others react to him, in restaurants or getting in the hotel lift etc |

That's two Keith Harris encounters ...hope he didn't call you a cunt as well! "
He was quite nice to me to be fair. Worked in a venue that he was doing a gig at that night. |

I met David Bowie once when I was a little off my head on pain meds. He stuck out his hand and said "Hi, I'm Dave". I don't remember it clearly, but I'm told I stared at him for several moments before grabbing his hand, shaking it over-vigorously and shouting "No you're not, you're David fucking Bowie". I wonder if he remembered me? Such a loss |
