Hi All,
I have been having the depo injection for as far back as I can remember and have never had any issues with it, until lately I mainly used it as it stopped my periods ( hate them things they get in the way ).
Over the last 3 months I started having a few issues like bleeding a bit about a week before my next depo was due ( i get them every 3 months) this happened the last 2 months ... my next one is not due till Feb 2019 and day after new yrs day I got a terrible cold and also started bleeding but this time was different it was much heavier and has not stopped for 10 days.
Has anyone come across these problems and what did you do ?? also can anyone suggest another alternative that i can get to help sort me out ... its starting to get me down now that i cant have any fun lol xxxxx
Thanks in advance ... men if you have any decent input i would love to hear it too |

I had this after several years of having the depo injection, I also started getting really bad mood swings. I stopped having it and had a coil fitted...bloody painful having it fitted, but back to no periods or mood swings pretty much straight away |

I’ve never had the injection but my sister has. I use the implant. Have had no issues at all. No period for 3 years no spotting nothing it’s excellent. Lots of ladies do say they get some side affects but I think it’s down to your own dna and hormone profile. What works for some doesn’t for another. Mirena coil is another good one.
As for the bleeding I’d get it checked hun by a doctor as could be anything or nothing. I had some bleeding after sex a few months back. The doctor rushed me through thinking I had cervical cancer. It wasn’t it was just coz the guy was hung! Haha.
The FPA (family planning association) website is a really good help for all things contraception etc. X |

I had a terrible reaction literally overnight from just 1 shot, it's taken me over a year to clear it from my system. (still getting symptoms now only milder)
There's a depo side affect withdrawl group on fb that might be useful if you're thinking about stopping it. I have seen women there talking about being fine for years then suddenly developing the symptoms I had (and you'really experiencing).
Your Dr will not acknowledge that this injection has anything to do with it though which is frustrating!

I have the Depo but still bleed some of us are not the lucky ones. You need to see whereever you have your Depo done they can give you pills along side should you wish. Remember it's artificial hormones, your own natural hormones affect it. Sometimes more regular ie ten weekly injections help |

I have it and although it doesn't stop my periods I get 1 day spot on every month and no other issues other than getting a bit sensitive around that day.
I used to have a coil and swore by it as no periods and just forgot it was there...but I had trouble when it needed removing so moved to the implant and that was awful.
So the depo seems great at the mo. |

I found after a few years the bleeding got to a point it didn't seem to stop and i turned totally psycho wanting to kill everyone. The nurse said it was all down to the jab and she was right! Got the implant now, 4 years into that and the odd bit of spotting and no amplified psycho outbursts thats not just me lol |

I had this when it was new and the side effects werent really known...ive been off it now for 18yrs but up until i had an ablation i was still suffering from the effects, the only plus side for me is that it stopped my oestrogen so it cut down the risk of getting breast cancer by alot,id not recommend any one to have this and to find another way but that said everyone is different,us girls do need our hormones intact though. |

Pre menopause? That can have an affect on these things.
As has already been said, your own hormone levels can affect it.
See your doctor. If the bleeding persists then they can give you medication to temp stop it.
My periods are lasting three weeks so every so often I have tablets to give me a break. |
