FAB CRAP RUNNERS CLUB 2019 - WEEK TWO AND THREE
Jump to: Newest in thread
Hello everyone and welcome to WEEKS TWO AND THREE of the FAB Crap Runners Club (2019 edition).
.
.
.
MOTTO: We run #LikeAToddlerChasingAPug
.
.
.
EXPLANATION AND ETHOS:
EVERYONE is welcome in the Fab Crap Runners' Club (the crapper the better).
From 1st January 2018, a bunch of Fabbers began improving their fitness through running. None of them were natural athletes but they did it anyway.
.
.
.
FOR COMPLETE BEGINNERS:
"Couch to 5k" (C25K) is a nine-week running programme for absolute beginners, available on various free phone apps (Mrs T used Get Running). But you can join this thread to get fit by any means including walking and cycling - all are welcome. If you're expecting to be utterly crap at it (I mean reeeeeeeeeally bad), you're in the right place. Join the thread, tell us what your aim is and we'll cheer you on each week, just for trying.
.
.
.
FOR MORE EXPERIENCED RUNNERS:
Tell us what you’re up to with your running, your training and your races. Let’s us know your highs and lows. Please cheer on the newbies and give advice if they ask.
.
.
.
FCRC SOCIAL PARKRUN
I am doing a doodle poll to find out where everyone can get to with ease before organising the next social.
https://doodle.com/poll/77nghmke7uwunrwy
Again, it's completely anonymous and you can vote for as many options as you would like.
Hopefully the regions are self-explanatory (Sorry if you think your county should be in a different region!)
I'm in the process of organising locations for parkruns. I'm thinking one a month in the different regions.
.
.
.
The first one will be in Leicestershire on Saturday 19th January 2019. As this is a public forum, I'll confirm exact location by pm. Please complete this doodle poll if you are able to attend.
https://doodle.com/poll/zywk7en2dx6yabmq
.
.
.
AND FINALLY:
Who is working towards a specific goal? Tell us your progress. |

"Hello,
Sorry about the lateness of this thread.
You've all been doing really well!
Most of us anyway
Unless you count cake eating capacity!! "
I've been doing a lot of that too.
And crisp eating...
And chocolate eating...
However, I did run 6 miles tonight and do hill sprints on Tuesday night. |

Well so far so good managing to get out pretty much every day. Comfortably running a 6k route I have and when I've been away I've stayed at hotels with a gym..
Have to say i hate tread mills..
Been out for a 25 mile bike ride this morning as I've signed up to a charity ride later in the year. And may even do a run tonight..
Been inspiring reading everyone else's posts.. great to see so many people keeping fit. |

If you are going to use the treadmill go for intervals and hill sessions, tougher but the time goes way quicker! |

Park run this morning, didn't want to go due to being bitten hard by the black dog, had a tough weeks training and managed 24.30, fastest time for 2 1/2 years. Pretty chuffed with that! |

I'm not sure how I managed to do this, but I keep forgetting to big up the social parkrun on Saturday (sorry, life keeps getting in the way).
Who is free for a run (or walk) and social in Leicestershire on Saturday morning. I'll arrange somewhere for us to meet for a coffee afterwards. |

"Despite my lack of running I found myself chatting to a vanilla female runner at 1am this morning about entering runs further than any distance I have completed
Go for it Harry!
What distances?"
10k. Furthest I have done is 8k in practice. Looking at pictures of last year it looks like lots of fully kitted out runners rather than some scruffbag in his old jogging bottoms and cheap trainers. Have to cough up money in advance and given I have been missing out on stuff for 5 months now due to being poorly am paranoid about booking anything. |

"This week has been tough, I finished work at 7am yesterday and usually run when I get up but turned over and slept till 5.30pm I have felt exhausted but randomly decided to jog/walk this afternoon and I'm so glad I went out, I get more energy just getting out in the fresh air, I just don't get why it takes me so long to get out
Anyway I'm on week 4 run 1 and did extra so the total was 4.5k. I didn't use strava but I did use an old phone and the app worked all the way round "
That is really, really good! You seem to be flying through the C25K now
I get like that after a long shift, but fresh air does wonders |

Thanks, I do feel good after it and don't get why I struggle getting out I think I'm more tired this week as I've had a 2-3 week break from shifts and straight into 60 hours! |

I thought I was bad at doing long miles but just 3 miles is pushing it!!!
Seriously though, London is amazing but you have to treat the marathon with the respect it deserves. There's nothing wrong with being slow, but there are always backmarkers who are unprepared (which is not the same thing, you can be slow and well prepared) and having an utterly miserable time |

Impressed by the number of C25k people here
I’ve done 30km so far this month (1 x 10km; the rest ~ 5km). I had a couple of months doing nothing and it’s taking a while to get back into it again, but I’m getting faster*.
*: ie faster than I was, but not fast....! Incremental progress! |

"My son and I still trying with C25K but we're struggling in the cold. "
You're doing well, getting off the couch is better than most
I find the first few mins are a bit too cold but once i start jogging i soon warm up. I prefer winter running to summer
I'm on week 4 of c25k, did it a few months last year but struggled in the heat, hoping to beat it this year and be a regular 5k runner. |

I;ve ran at 11ish when I've worked late and do like the solitude but I think that would be way too late fr me! Mind you the only reason I;ve not entered Race to the Stones this year is a general fear of the dark |

Congratulations to everyone who’s started Couch to 5K. I’m due to start organising our work one any day now.

Off to the gym shortly. |

Whatever you do, listen to your body and don't train injured!
I was a reasonably serious distance runner (not to any good level but decent times and training loads). I ignored an injury and spent 18 months getting back to it - only just able to start back properly.
Good luck for the 10k. Believe you can do it and you will! |

You've got roughly 8 weeks to go from 5k to 42k. Be very careful with that training mate |

Ran/walked again today, 3 sets of 5 mins but added extra on the last one as usual to finish my route so the last one was about 9 mins.
Not looking forward to next week as its running constant for 25 mins

It's a slippery slope though as you'll want to do more and go further - my next ambition is a big ultra (60m + ). Got to get back up to decent distances first though lol |

"Still rehabbing calf injury...600m run, 100m walk repeated up to 5k yesterday...killing me! i want to run 10k straight off.."
Have you tried a rolling pin?
No, not like that!
Once your calves are warm (preferably directly after a run), get a rolling pin and roll it up and down your calves. Take roughly 2 mins for front, then back and make sure you do your quads and hams (all roughly 2 mins). It also gives your pastry a salty flavour ??
Also keep a tennis ball handy and roll it under your bare feet. It's better than a golf ball (I keep one on my draw at work)
Also keep your back loose and don't neglect your core.
It's really amazing how connected everything is and one issue can be related to a problem somewhere else.
Actually, that's a note for everyone - don't neglect your core. |

If anyone ever wants to go for a run in the MK, GU or CH area buzz me a message.
(That's ignoring one of the points in my profile btw, just a genuine "go for a run" )
I'm usually in MK once or twice a week and CH once per month. |

Oh yes...watching telly I have a knobbly roller that I use for about an hour, then massage the muscles, wear compression socks all day, have had my leg taped for running, core work daily..stand on one foot when in the kitchen, in a queue etc plus stability ball work at least 2 x per week with other strength training, have a foot roller & spiky ball...full of toys my house!.....No, not like that! |

"Parkrun #154 today with some freebies from persil!
I wish I hadn't stopped running. Its so hard getting back in to it again
Blimey, 154!!! I'm so impressed!!!
Did my 8th parkrun this morning and got a new PB
189th for me today!
10 away from my 100. Went off doing them for a while, but have found swapping which one I do from week to week helps.
Is this about fellow fabbers or parkrun? "
I'd have no energy left for running |

Week 2 of c25k completed yesterday. Now crapping myself over starting week 3 tomorrow! May slow down the running sections to 5.5mph as I’m ready to collapse (calves aching) at the end of 90s at 6mph |

Congratulations. There seems to be different C25K programmes. The one I lead at work doesn’t mention speeds, just times. I think slowing down is a good idea. I found speed came a lot later than keeping moving when I first started running. Best of luck with it. |
