How did you decide your childs name?
Did it come easily?
Did you have a name right from the start?
Or was it really difficult, and you only thought of a name when your child was born?
I was Caitlin for a week after being born until my auntie said I looked like another name...and my mum went with it |

I had a name all picked out. When she arrived she didn’t suit it at all. She was ‘baby girl’ until we figured the only name that suited was the jokey pet name I had for the ‘bump’. She’s not called bump. |

2 boys have names that we'd already decided on, both have a variation on their paternal grandfather name for a middle name.
My daughter, again, a favourite name of mine, middle name a family name from both sides |

My 2 boys were named after grandfather's
M's 2 boys are named after his favourite musicians.
I had HUGE lists and neither of the names I ended up picking were on them! My eldest was 'Calvin' until he arrived and my youngest was 'Nathan' until he arrived. |

My daughter's name was suggested and when she came it just suited her...Georgia.
My son we argued over it for months then we settled on Owen (LFC fans)
My third child isn't biologically mine and I couldn't change her name but I wouldn't have given her the name she has...Miley.

I don't have any kids but my mum for me picked a completely unique name. So much so it doesn't exist anywhere else. Totally made up haha. And for my sister she had a name picked out but had a c section and by the time she came round my dad had put his chosen name down for her and it stuck. Her original name honestly wouldn't have suited her. And I can't imagine myself as any other name |
Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote

I don't have kids, but I'd try to pick a name that isn't likely to attract bullying (best as I can tell), and isn't desperately trendy or old fashioned (unless it's a traditional name, male names do this better generally. John versus say Phyllis). Unlike many, I'd probably try to avoid continuing family names, because Aunt Sue will certainly be offended that I named my kid after Aunt Marjory, and I've seen that crap rumble on for decades.
I'd love to give my hypothetical child a name with a nice meaning (and there are some I'd avoid on the meaning front), but it'd be secondary to those considerations. |

I think not as I've read many of your posts and the green arrow never lies
It wasn't just the smell of food that used to make her cuddle Berty, some perfumes, cleaning products or even areas of shops would be enough The weird thing is that some smells from back then still get her queasy now |

The name i gave my first daughter, was from a dream i had, a few weeks before she was born. I didn't know what sex the baby was, but dreamt i had a little girl with beautiful auburn hair and i was calling her by this name. When i had a little redheaded baby, i decided that was the perfect name .
My second was simply because i loved the name |

My mum always knew she would have a girl and throughout her pregnancy she always knew what my name would be. My dad wanted to call me something very similar but a lot more common so I'm glad my mum got her own way.
I have a list of girls names that I would like to use - Sophia, Caitlyn, Erica, (my grandpa was called Eric), Faith, with Persephone as a middle name. But absolutely no boys names. |

My Dad had a name he absolutely loved for me but my mum and her pretension won in the end.
The names I love for boys have already been vetoed because of my surname sadly. For girls there are two I absolutely adore and hopefully one day soon I'll get to use them - they are both literary nods and not that common. |

I found it really difficult to decide as I wanted something rare and unusual and I'm so picky. My partner isn't too fussy so it was whatever I decided pretty much. It took me about four months to decide on a name. It is inspired by astronomy and it's perfect for my little one. I always get compliments and nobody I've come across has heard of it before.
Now, I've been thinking of a boys name for years and I still can't think of any I love. I'm screwed if I have a boy. |

My daughter's name is a Middle Eastern town, my son's is a Celtic name. He loves being the only person in a large boys school with that name. (Thank goodness he's not a little git and is infamous for all the wrong reasons!).
