Can anyone explain why there is such a tendency to show close-ups of genitalia in profile pictures? We all know what ladies and gentlemen's nether regions look like so why don’t people post erotic photos or full body pictures?

I think the close ups should be kept private. You could show pictures of you the act say, particularly if it's involving some kind of kink so as to say "this is what I'm into" for those who just look at the pictures. We don't need to see 10 different angles of someone's nether regions to know it's a sex site.
In saying that, if you wanna show your bits off that's your choice. Some people might actually find it empowering or displaying themselves like that might even be their kink. |

It is abit critical OP 
But I also prefer pics that show more than just genitalia or a close up of one boob!
I'd guess that they either really think that it is sexy, don't feel confident enough to show more of their body or maybe they don't have the imagination to be more creative. |

doesn't mean we don't either. Some people want to show them... some don't.. others don't want to see them. Yet I know lady friends that won't meet without seeing a cock photo.
It's like I personally enjoy creampie photos.. many others find them vile. There is something for everyone and everyone is free to show or not show what they like. |

I think a good mix of pictures on profiles is best. The ones i don't get are close-ups where you're not quite sure exactly what it is you're looking at. |

Some do, some don't, some post both, some post neither.
And whilst 'we all know what ladies and gentlemen's nether regions look like' in general it's definitely true that some are prettier than others, they come in all shapes and sizes, some are furry, some are smooth and some look like they've recently had a hot date with a blender.
To some genital attraction is as important as facial.
Nowt queer as folk.

Because the majority would not feel body confident enough to do that.
Hence why you get pics from all angles. Trying to mask their perceived negative bits.
Photos are here to attract. I suspect many do not think they can produce attractive if they fully reveal. Not for all but i'm sure for many. If honest. |

Its personal preference I suppose, I do look at pictures and bypass some very very quickly (think bulldog eating mayonnaise) but those that leave something to the imagination and get the mind working, might just get a fab.
I also agree with others that it may be a body confidence thing, but we will never know.
The site is about making an initial judgement on people based on what we see and read, so in a sense, close up pictures simply act as a filter for some of us. |

Agreed, we prefer profiles without loads of genitalia pics. 1 or 2 would be OK. |

I like the irony of the 'air of mystery' on undressing someone when supposedly we all know what our bits look like anyway.
Can be a bit of self expression, empowerment, can be laziness or just beause we want to. |
