Nope, but I've never changed my name.
Have seen a fair few variations of my single profile name though. Imposters, there's only one PP.
And PrivateParts obviously.

Not the username but pictures. Just in the last 5 minutes I had someone message me alerting me to someone using my pics on their profile.
Cheeky bugger put my body type as average as well. Admin have now removed the profile. |

A way to stop it is to set up a second profile in your usual username immediately after changing the name on your main profile. Then delete the dummy profile when you are ready to change back. |

My profile text was copied in the past! Not my username because I have never changed it. Even though I had deleted my profile and was not on for a while I rejoined with same username.

Not me. This happens every Xmas doesn’t it?
As soon as I changed mine I set up a new account with my old name and hid it.
I expect the phantom name-nicker got a little surprise if they tried to steal mine when they realised they couldn’t.
It was pre-warned in the Christmas names thread. It’s what alerted me to change it.
Someone somewhere thinks it’s hilarious (well, it was quite a good joke!) but maybe now’s the time to close all the bogus accounts and release the names again!  |

It should be standard that usernames are attached to you for a set amount of days after changing it, unable to be used by any other until that period is over. |

Agreed
That would protect fabbers when they change name over festive period or when they join in various threads to amend username for a laugh.
Having to create a dummy profile is the other option, but not ideal as having a standard grace period of username being attached to profile. |

This appears to be more though. I remember reading previous threads and many posters were saying it happened to them at the same time. So I reckon someone targeted usernames. Even if it was for a joke still not funny because pointless and should release them. |

You don’t need a real email address. Just make one up. Eg dhrjjujvsbg@hotmail.com. You can block a username without validating the email. Easily done. |

Yeah someone has one almost identical to mine. Wether it was knicked I'm not sure but I ended up getting verified at the back end of last year from a couple 100s of miles away because of it.

I had a couple profile and the name was very dear to me (no idea why but I got very emotionally attached to it). Now we are no longer a couple the account was deleted. But I don’t want anyone to steal that name so I have it in a hidden profile. I may use it again at some point. Or I’ll stop being weird and let it go

Yep once. I called the police and to be fair to them despite their stretched and under funded resources they investigated. Two days later they located my username on disused waste ground. Unfortunately it had been burnt out by the thugs that stole it so they found no useable evidence. They never find anyone in connection with the theft and fire of my username. Luckily as my user name was insured for both fire and theft my username was able to be replaced with an identical one. |

Luckily as my user name was insured for both fire and theft my username was able to be replaced with an identical one."

It does seem a bit suspect though when a lot of the profiles are hidden. |

As soon as I changed mine I set up a new account with my old name and hid it.
I expect the phantom name-nicker got a little surprise if they tried to steal mine when they realised they couldn’t.
It was pre-warned in the Christmas names thread. It’s what alerted me to change it.
Someone somewhere thinks it’s hilarious (well, it was quite a good joke!) but maybe now’s the time to close all the bogus accounts and release the names again!
Wouldnt one person need about 20 different email addresses. Does each account need its own email. What a faff.
You don’t need a real email address. Just make one up. Eg dhrjjujvsbg@hotmail.com. You can block a username without validating the email. Easily done. "

"A way to stop it is to set up a second profile in your usual username immediately after changing the name on your main profile. Then delete the dummy profile when you are ready to change back."
