Beds - a question...
Jump to: Newest in thread
Hi all. So, our bed (nothing fancy, with sprung slats) has, despite sone tinkering, developed one too many squeaks for our liking. This makes, um, our sexy time somewhat tricky as we’re constantly worried about the noise.
So, the question - is there a bed type that is better/best to avoid this? Or do we just have to be less vigorous?

"Wooden or metal?
Currently metal. Happy to replace with whatever though. "
Metal always squeaks after a while. Mine does the same. Better off with a solid wooden one |

"Futon.

Then after six weeks of frenzied rutting, the floorboards start to thump and rattle instead... "
Ah. That’s definitely going to cost more than a new bed. Although 6 weeks sounds like quite hard work to be honest. |

If you really want to keep the sex-squeaks at bay, consider a solidly constructed wooden bed and then during assembly, glue the joints.
It will make the bed a permanent fitting in the room, but it will make it much more solid over time. |

I made the switch to a water bed about 3 years ago and I will never go back to a 'conventional' bed.
Sooooooo comfortable.
If you can find a stockist local to you, you should definitely go jave a lie down on one |

Spooky
They are so good though, as long as you are prepared to splash out for that little bit more quality. |

Try re-assembling the frame, with large rubber washers between the metal parts.
Headboard banging is a more common problem. Easily solved by stuffing cuddly toys down the back.
Always makes me laugh, when I see those in someone else's house

"Don’t buy from dreams completely ****"
Bought a mattress from dreams. Best. Sleep. Ever.
If you have a metal frame bed you can get round the squeaking quite easily.
Buy a thin rubber sheet and cut into small circles to use as washers against parts bolted together.
If you have a metal base that fits into the frame you can glue strips of the rubber onto the frame where the base fits. If there isn't enough room for the rubber strip it is possible to use a lone of silicone sealant instead. (Let it dry before reassembly) |

"Yes solid hard wood frame is best with solid bolted fixing points as less chance of movement then."
this is what we have, doesn’t make sound when the heat is very much on |

I used the self-adhesive felt pads meant to go under chairs and sofas. Work quite well and are replaceable.

You need a bed without slats, they a a disaster, even if screwed down, that makes it worse! |

"Bed frame isn’t as important as the mattress
Got a great mattress last year, a Simba which we love. You’re absolutely right!"
Was curious about Simba’s... so you’re a fan? Are they memory-foam-y or something else? What makes them so good? Thx! |

Make sure every bolt is as tight as possible. If need be, use some Locktight on the threads and nuts! On the other hand,I all ways enjoyed the squeeking and headboard thumping against the wall, when going at it hard and fast!! |
