That time of the year where heating and electricity costs go up due to the cold weather.
Do you turn on and stay warm or suffer and don’t switch the heating on. |

I'm lucky enough to have a chronic illness which messes with my metabolism.
Love this time of year, I've had the window open all day so I could come home to a lovely cold bedroom.
Heaven. |

My nan was like that even though she could afford it. I used to get annoyed with her about it.
She lives in a nursing home now and it's so bloody hot she has me opening the windows in her room |

"We turn the heating off & light the log burner.
But the logs are expensive. They don’t grow on trees you know!"
Strangely enough....
Neighbour cut down a dozen trees two yrs ago, I'm still burning the free wood! All it cost me was a cheap chainsaw & a splitting axe |

We know some old people who are very well off but they only heat a couple of rooms, we asked why and they said they want to leave as much as they can to kids, grandkids etc..
Think there is genuine poverty across age groups but some older people probably think similar to the ones we know..
Think it's how they were raised etc.. |

Good to share ideas.
As you know the gas fire, and radiators all cost money.
Jumpers, hot water bottles, warm drinks should all help.
Then you got the damp if house not fully warm. |

Mine costs a small fortune. The house is old and the Rayburn very uneconomical.
Log burner goes on too.
It's on probably 15 hours a day at weekends and around 8 during the week.
No wonder I'm poor |

"I generally just put a pair of socks on Bill if I need to warm him up
Sure you could pop him into the toaster for a minute?.."
I don't think he'd fully appreciate that
But thanks for your useful advice, I might bring it up in conversation one day |

"Mine is set at 22c morning and evening 18c during the day and when I am asleep. I could never have a cold house as it would make me feel poor"
I sit with a blanket on ma knees in winter and only have a convection heater in ma living space. I only turn it on when it gets extremely cold, or I have guests. |

Bill can out on a jumper and some fluffy socks
Direct debit payments - don't pay any more over winter than in summer. We're 17° at night and 20.5° for day time/evening - joys of being at home with small children and Wade working nightshift. No working hours break for the heating!
