Is it strange in uk to greet people you/they pass by im not saying in high st but neighbours or even parking waden.

Ive been living in uk since 2002 greeting some one that you dont know they sometimes reply but with dirty looks etc. Is it something unusually?

I live in a village everyone says hi. When I lived in the city you would get odd looks

Manchester (she/her)

Depends on where you live, and sometimes the person.

If I pass someone where I live, I'd smile & say hi. But in the city centre where I work it would be weird

Depends where you are. We lived in a more middle class little town and you'd get dirty looks if you didn't say hello! Men would tip

their hats! It was lovely

I always say hello and give a smile but I suppose it does depend on where you live.

I live in a small village and it seems to be the custom. I like it, love striking up random conversations with strangers, city life just would not suit me.

I live in a city, and one always portrayed as a bit scary at that ! People don't really smile on the street as such, but I don't think I've ever took a bus or went to a supermarket/pub and not ended up chatting to a stranger. We like a gab.

Its not unusual here where I live, everyone is very friendly plus there are a lot of walkers and hikers...

Everyone says hi or hello

Its like when beggars ask for change they get ignored as if they're not there

Manchester (he/him)

My idea of hell is small talk with strangers. I'm not sullen or miserable, I just don't want to talk about the weather 6 times every time I go for milk.

I always say hello and smile. Mostly people reply. However this was less the case when I lived in London. Other parts of the South did reply though.

I lived in Norwich for a while, it was the loneliest time, you become internalised because of the lack of interaction.

Just a hello, or a smile could make someone's day.
