I dont think you can totally stop it, but reduce the chances, there have been few attacks over the new year, in manchester and in germany.

Is introducing the military like they have in france a good option? When I was in paris train station you saw them walking openly with machine guns.

I fear that terrorism will never be stopped fully. Individuals and groups are always introducing new and ever more cunning ways to sabotage our lives. Security services and law enforcement will always be one step behind the bad guys.

The media fuels the situation allowing them a platform to advertise there hate and to attract other with a similar view.

It's not as easy as saying the military will stop them as this is more perception for the population to feel safe.

Bottom line is there is no easy answer to stopping people from hating others.

No. It's going to happen whatever you do because of individual differences unfortunately.

And I'd also say no to the military on the streets. The best thing we can do is continue as normal, the terrorist win when we begin to live in a state of constant fear of everything. Domestic and foreign security services already do so much behind the scenes to stop events that could have happened which we'll never know about

Can you stop terrorism?

Nope.

Because even if you take out the examples based on religion or political motivation you'll still have the 'state sponsored' variety where governments fund/supply/enable various groups to further their own aims.

Many of the world's terrorism problems have been created by the very countries they now affect. If governments didn't get involved in other countries affairs then modern terrorism wouldn't be quite the issue it is.

The UK already is, and still will be, a member of the Five Eyes - a cooperative intelligence network between the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. That combined with organisations like NATO and Interpol, and I don't believe that our security and intelligence will take a huge hit.

As the much heralded Sadiq Khan says terrorism is “part and parcel” of living in a major city

All while 2 people were killed only a few hours into the new year, knife crime is at a record high and avid attacks are a common occurrence, out friend Sadiq is spending £3million on a firework display to show some support for a fascist political union

War on terrorist..what does war create? Terror...this makes terrorism.

Therefore its a war on the consequences of the actions you are involved in.

It's all one vicious cycle.

Can it be stopped completely?

In theory yes, stop going around playing "who's got the biggest stick" and poking people based on religion, colour or creed, stop wars, stop causing problems where because another country is different to ours it's not a case of invade and push our beliefs on them, it's not about going in to save 1 cent on a gallon of oil.

Whether it's the IRA or ETA or ISIS, it can all be tracked back to one country throwing its weight around where it quite frankly wasn't wanted/needed or appreciated.

We live in a world where there is more than enough land to put people peacefully, separate from indifference and in harmony. But as always there are those which create terror, create fear for personal gains.

So yes in theory it is possible, will it happen? Again possible but only once everyone starts working together rather than pushing each other apart which seems to go against the fundamental workings of mankind in general.

I've never quite understood the distinction that gets made by people when ideology is the driving force behind crime.

To differentiate between terrorism and other crime is to legitimise the terrorist.

It's crime and they are criminals. Pure and simple.

Except that to some one man's terrorist is another's freedom fighter.

Brings me back to my point on state sponsored terrorism.

Look at Afghanistan. Who did the USA fund, train and support when they were fighting the Russians? Move on a few years and who were the USA fighting?

It's the same in the middle east and Africa.

One country thousands of miles away exerting it's influence, spending it's tax money and supporting a side based on personal interest, rather than that of the population of said country.

Whether it's oil, other natural resources, or simply the fact that the ruling power is more friendly with a traditional enemy - foreign interference is the primary cause of terrorism in so many instances.

It could be argued many western countries have done just that whilst bombing middle Eastern countries over the past two decades.

I don't recall a declaration of war between the UK and Syria.

Terrorists that kill civilians are abhorrent.

Are governments that bomb countries killing civilians in support of one side in a domestic arguement really any different?

I think some people will always be on the outside, away from the mainstream and thus somewhat overlooked or excluded. It's the extent of the exclusion whether there's any hatred or increased exclusion directed towards them or attempts to harm, that can facilate greater hostility. Obviously any mindset that already is hostile, on either side, can make things worse and leaders need to be inclusive, rather than fostering anger etc.

We're not all the same and thus need to promote a more peaceful togetherness. Future years look set to be tougher for most people, with increased global warming, displacement, shortages of water and/or food - and this could foment greater rage due to divisions. I don't think it's possible to prevent terrorism but the state should be doing everything that's reasonably possible to understand its citizens and care for their wellbeing, as well as promote peace and tolerance.

From a purely practical point of view, no.

It is impossible to stop someone deciding to kill and injure a number of others. For what ever reason.

You can make it harder, and as a country we do a reasonable job.

But much of the visible security is simply there to make people feel better. If it comes down to needing an armed police officer, it's too late (apart from to possibly minimise the damage).

Unless you keep everyone locked in cages, someone can do someone else harm. As has been shown all they need is a car or truck.

Religion has a way of making good people do very bad things though. You think without religion Jews would have had 6 million of their people killed? Think Ireland would see hate just because someone is a different type of Christian. Think we would have have had 9:11? Crusades? Spanish Inquisition? Slavery as it’s confined by the bible?? No can't stop it. Any law brought in to control 0.1% of the population just impinges the rights of the 99.9%.

Remember. They brought out license plate recognition system to fight the IRA. It was military gear. It was put on the motorways to spot IRA vans driving into London.

Since that day they have been used for nothing other than taking money off English people.

Gangs were roaming wild around london on mopeds throwing acid on people, cars mounted paths in terror attacks, and all the cameras did was make sure everyone who complies with every law paid to go into the city.

When you accept that, you will know the government just monitizes terrorism. They don't give a shit.

Terrorism is, arguably, the price of empire (said someone more learned than I).

But no, of course it can't be stopped - its a political tool - a faceless enemy that can be manipulated to suit an agenda.

Our enemies no longer have a country, a leader, a coherent strategy, a clear goal - nothing.

We're told who our enemies are, what they want and how we should be afraid, and we eat it up.

"Can you stop terrorism?

A"

Almost what I was about to say.

One way to stop terrorism, or to reduce it. Is to shut down govs. But then, people would be more afraid of a gov shutting down than terrorist attacks.

Will only stop if you ban religion.

We enforced Christianity upon the rest of the world using force and now it’s come back to bite us.

"At the end of the day terrorists are armed with western weapons

You mean like AK 47's "

What’s wrong with AK? Quite a few private companies used AK as well. Easy access, cheap, easy to maintain.

Democracy doesn’t exist in the U.K.

If it did we would be leaving the EU on 29th.

READING

Most of the world's religions promote peace, maybe the world religious leaders should agree to work together, and remove from their religion any one that promotes or practices violence.

No, this is why the government implemented prevent duty, and British values as a strategy to PREVENT radicalisation of vulnerable groups, ie children. Because they believe prevention is better than a cure.

You can stop it with wars.

And building walls around countries.

And having bigots run your country so they promote hate for others.

Just giving any bigot a voice is enough to get rid of them tbh.

And i think this is why these things happen and are tolerated?

No you can't stop it. There will always be those willing to support and fund terrorism to achieve their ends and there will always be those willing to carry it out.

Not until politics, philosophy and society evolve a bit more will we find peace. Realise there's more than enough of everything to go round.

Sadly I think Aliens are more likely to arrive and be the uniting factor of humanity instead. To many stupid fundamentalists for it to happen any time soon.

I think a good Alien invasion who will end up in slaving us and reunite us in a worldwide fight back using terror, the only downside to that is that you know some lefty SJW SNOWFLAKE will start a #AlienMeToo movement and start protesting outside with equality for Alien banners.
