"Waitrose are launching vegan fish fingers. I just don't get it. Why would a vegan want to eat something that looks like fish?"
How many fish have you seen covered in bread crumbs ? |

I never really understood the logic of calling a vegetarian dish after a meat/fish dish. There are a lot of great vegetarian/vegan recipes out there that stand on there own don't have to be marketed as a meat recipe substitute. |

"Waitrose are launching vegan fish fingers. I just don't get it. Why would a vegan want to eat something that looks like fish?"
Holland and Barratt have been selling similar substitutes for years
Asda and tesco have done it for ages
They are just trying to keep up with the rest of the "trend" followers
I enjoy meat alternatives but fish alternatives just aren't my thing
I can't stand walking down past fish aisle let alone eat something that smells and tastes like it.
Veganism is gaining popularity although very few sustain their diets
I've been vegetarian since I was 7 I enjoy being able to eat something similar to my meat eating friends without actually eating meat
Also there's much tastier alternatives these days than over 10 years ago

I’ve been vegetarian all my life .
That doesn’t stop me enjoying vegetarian sausages , burgers or any other veggie alternative .
The fact that these alternatives are available shows we could do a whole lot more to reduce our meat eating and thereby help with the future for the planet and the starving millions that inhabit it . |

When I was a kid at school , that was pretty much what I was told to do .
Fortunately things have moved on now , and retry much every restaraunt and takeaway establishment has a veggie alternative offering .
This is mainly because there’s a demand for it , and that demand has come from those who refused to accept that ‘ just eating nuts ‘ wasn’t gonna happen . The guys who started the Realeat company in the seventies with veggie burgers and veggie bangers and had the vans out selling them . The shops selling the dried mix so you could take it home and make your own . Pioneers of what we now enjoy . It certainly doesn’t harm anyone so why not ? |

By way of an explanation to those who ask the tired , worn out question of why vegetarians or vegans use certain 'meat related' words ............ here goes.
Sausage is a shape. e.g. sausage dog. sausage balloon.
Sausage is shared language and therefore understanding.
I eat plant protein sausage.
If I say to a meat eater get me some vegan sausage they know what to look for.
If we are having sausage chips and beans we have the same meal but they have meat based sausages and I have plant protein sausages.
NOW....... for further understanding ...... replace the word 'sausage' ...... with ...... BURGER.............MINCE....... BATTERED PRAWNS...... SAUSAGE ROLLS..... BREADED FINGERS ........ PIZZA.
Using familiar words means we all understand what is being eaten / wanted / shopped for / cooked..... it's just that the MEAT EATER wants meat based food and the NON MEAT EATER wants plant based food.......
I have chairs. Some are Wooden chairs. Some are plastic chairs . Some are metal framed chairs . Some are upholstered material. Chairs.........
If non meat eaters made up new words for food NO ONE would understand what they were talking about.
It's just shared language. |

Thank you for that beauty of a comment. Drink went over the carpet, but so worth it for those giggles. |

This whole vegan thing seems a bit off to me.
I understand the why so please don't jump on me
Scientists have proven vegetation feels pain when it's cut...so surely that is against the whole doing no harm thing?
Also vegetation grows, it requires food, nutrients, love and attention to grow...kind of like an animal yes?
So in retrospect... If a blind, paralised pig was killed, would that be OK to eat?
*please note this post may contain traces of sarcasm, if offended please seek immediate medical attention |

"i guess at least vegan fish fingers dont contain small particles of plastic unlike real fish fingers.."
Pretty much anybody who has eaten with plastic utensils or drinks out of plastic bottles consume some plastic. When human hair samples are analysed they can tell what your saucepans are made of..
I wonder if teflon and aluminium consumption harms us...
