Starting to get nervous.

So last year I saw a cycling challenge which was for charity and coincided with the tenth anniversary of my father passing.

It seemed fine and I got signed up early so as to make sure I got lots of miles into my legs so I could make him proud.

The problem is that 2018 was a shite year and everything that could stop me doing lots of miles has done. I am sat here having not ridden for three to four weeks properly thinking I am not going to be ready physically. This then puts a bugger strain on my ability to mentally push myself harder and complete the task.

The real mental challenge I have is trying not.to stress abiut the. Financial commitment I made to the charity to raise a certain amount of money. The first payment milestone is not far away and I am worried that I might not achieve it. This is weighing heavy on my heart as I have said that my motivation is to make my father proud. The bug thing is I do not like begging from people for their donations and without that I shall not achieve the money in the time frame.

Any advice on how people have raised cash for charity without the begging aspect.

Happy New Year everyone by the way.

Are you on social media? Could you set up one of those just giving accounts where you can link it to an description of what you're doing and why?

Have you used social media/email to reach out to friends/family and colleagues - do you have a fundraising page you could share on there with a little back story from yourself to explain why its so important.

Good luck hitting your targets

I have done all that and set up a website with a blog. It is just getting it to go a bit viral seems to be the problem.

Maybe I need to have a cake sale and get a sexy red head to bake her delicious cakes.

I did something similar a few years back. I arranged a beer festival with my local bar. A %of takings was donated. My local Indian held a buffet and auction night, with a % of takings again being donated, as well as the auction.

Ask around to see if anyone has collectible signed memorabilia that they'd donate for sale on eBay.

Get a couple of your pals and do a couple of hours helping to pack bags at Tescos, Sainsburys etc. Bring a few buckets with your charity labelled on them. If you've kids or young ones in the family then they will get more donations haha. My sister does a lot for charity and she can easily get a grand doing this for a few hours on a busy Sat afternoon.

Most charity organised activities do. If you look at the London Marathon charity places you are talking around £3K if not more.

This is how a lot of their money is raised. But as its Marie Currie I am happy to help as they have helped my father when he was alive and are now helping my mother. So I want to help the charity.

I never knew that. You'd think they'd be appreciative of any donation they receive.

Good luck. Social media seems the way to go. Crowd something, go fund me. It's a shame you can't put a link on here.

Charities usually have promo tools to help you. Get in touch with your companies marketing people, they helped me to raise £205 for a walk for Alzheimers.

So I have started to explore some of the ideas you have kindly suggested and also I am getting in touch with the local newspaper.

Still up for extra ideas on how to help get back on track.

Hefty Hideaway

Deep breaths.

Cut it into manageable pieces. You got the miles in before. Carve some ride time out and do it for pleasure not for the sake of it.

Donation wise there are some awesome ideas up there. Rope in a friend or family member to help with that side of things so you can concentrate on training.

Good luck x
