By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

These last few days are always tough for me for personal reasons but I've found this year especially hard. I usually lock everyone out & wallow but my best friends wouldn't let me so last night we all got together, talked, listened to music, danced & laughed. Feeling much more positive so was curious...what cheers you up?

There and to the left a bit

Music played loud is usually good to blow troubles away for me - find I can lose myself in it and things suddenly don't feel so bad, add the company of good friends and some laughter to that and the blues usually disappear completely

This being my first Christmas as a singleton in 10 years, I found myself feeling quite miserable.

So I got on the sofa, with a blanket,a brew, the cat on my knee and watched serial killer documentaries all night. Cheered me right up lol

Friends are brilliant mood boosters, glad you're better Op. For me it would be going for a long drive, listening to music or watching a so awful it's good gilm. Or sometimes just having a good talk. Baking is quite good as well because it's methodical and therapeutic.

Fresh air, dogs, connecting with friends, my voluntary work, exercise (although usually I have to force myself and I wait until the next day to feel better).

Sometimes a short cry or wallow with or without music, sleeping it off, reflection.

Worst case, I go asking for professional help.

That seems quite popular.

Productive housework - got all the beds stripped and changed this morning. Mixture of getting myself moving, doing something that needed doing, and seeing immediate results of the bedrooms looking better with fresh sheets and made beds.

Also, made Christmas tree brownies with the kidlets

Not a bad Sunday morning and it's cleared away the duldrums

If I'm really miserable nothing cheers me up. That's alright by me because I think it's ok to be miserable occasionally.

Do you listen to melancholy music when you're miserable?

Not especially but if a melancholy piece comes on the radio or I read a particular passage in a book it will resonate more than at other times.

Blitzing the house is always good I find, took down my Christmas tree & decorations boxing day & cleaned the house top to bottom. Christmas tree brownies sound yummy.

I usually go to the shop and buy a watermelon, then go back home, light some candles and put some music on before getting ready for a love making session with the watermelon I just bought.

I even try to get myself miserable to justify the fact that I fuck watermelons

"Looking through the OP's profile and long cycle rides cheer me up

Thank you, might dig my bike out.

Now there's a thought, have a ride with you, getting all hot, sweaty and out of breath together

Just say when and where. Now that would certainly cheer me up!

Its been so long since I've been on my bike I think I'd only make it to the end of my street before I'm out of breath!

That's fine, we could then go back to your place for a post ride shower;)

Think I'd need a lay down though "

You tease!

I have two good friends who I have known since my teens. They live about a 3/4 hours drive away now but when we do meet up I can be me, relax and enjoy their company. I know that they are always there for me as I am for them. It's a great comfort.

As for lifting my mood, a walk in the countryside or by the sea soon has me smiling as I take in the scenery and marvel at the wildlife. Keep smiling and feeling positive OP x

Dancing! Just wish I could dance! But it does make me happy!

Singing! I can sing! Such a stress release!

Driving, love it, long road, stereo, me and my boy.

My boys, couldn't be prouder of the men they have become!

Boyfriend, he's as batshit as me! He can't dance either!

My dog, always there for smooshy, floofy cwtches! He doesn't judge our dancing either so bonus!

Never underestimate the positive effects of a simple hug, even if it's nothing more.
