"Does anybody know much about getting things trademarked?
I am sort of going through the process now but I am finding it confusing "
For the UK, you can add the TM mark to anything you consider a trademark, without any kind of registration. If you want stronger protection then you should seek a registration which once granted permits you to use the R mark. It needn't cost much (you don't need a lawyer for a simple registration). As someone has already pointed out, go to the Intellectual Property Office website where's there's tons of info. Good luck! |

Sorry guys and girls, I probably should have put in some more detail.
I have spent quite some time on google and the IPO site. I understand about the different classifications and have them all sorted. The bits that are confusing me are -
1 - I have two versions of my logo that I am trademarking, one black and one white. Do I need to register both seperately?
2 - I know that I have 'basic protection' in the UK, as long as I can prove its 'mine', how long I have been using it etc. I re-enforced that by sending copies to my self, recorded delivery, along with a covering note/disclaimer, given information on its uses, when it was first drawn up etc. However, before I go and register it, I'm trying to find out if it would be better for me to register it internationally, rather than UK first, and international in a few years time.
3 - The final thing I am confused about is how much I need to register. Obviously I want my logo in all of the relevant classifications, and it's inverted colour, but I am fairly certain that I want my company/trading name registered too. Ideally I would like to avoid registering them individually, as that would double the costs
I know that this sort of stuff is a specialist area. The reason I posted on here was because I was hoping that there might be other people on here that had done a similar thing. I know that I can get specialist trademarking lawyers, but I don't have £300 an hour for that
Sorry for not being clearer before.
Thanks guys |
