Ok so I absolutely hate wearing glasses. Always have done.

My question is, what are peoples opinions on contacts? It's something I've thought a lot about but it looks painful!

I'd love to just get laser, but sadly I don't have that type of spare income

Contact lenses don't hurt. Millions of people wear them daily, including me. Go to your optician and get some on a trial basis.

Once you get the hang of them you can whip them in and out with out second thought.

Struggle at first especially when you take them out and you can't get it out first time.

Even after so many years I still have off days putting them in.

I'm lucky my eyes are the same so I can't get them in the wrong eyes

I use permanent wear ones that I sleep in. I’d be lost without them!

Specsavers are excellent with new lens wearers. Once you try you won’t want to go back to your specs.

I didn't even think about different strengths per eye!

My concern is having something in my eye. Got a bit of a phobia of it to be honest, due to a childhood accident.

I think I will give them a go though. Thank you for the advice

Permanent wear? You never need to remove them? How does that work?

I'm the same, after an eye injury.

You can't feel them unless you've worn them too long and they dry out but that's the same as just having dry eyes at the end of the day.

I use daily disposables and they're great, I thought I'd struggle but they're so easy to put in and take out. Also agree that specsavers offer a brilliant contact lens service.

They are the sort that you change every month. I even have one lens for reading and another for distance.

I couldn't get on with them at all. But they couldn't match my prescription and my vision was pants. I gave up.

I've had them in the past. Depending on your prescription, they can be dailys, monthly etc.

Also if you have astigmatism, that can cause some issues

I have astigmatism in one eye, it used to mean lenses were uncomfortable but I get ones specifically made for that now for about an extra £2 a month, its so worth it.

And after about age 40 presbyopia starts to kick in meaning that you need reading glasses!

I have contacts that are great for general seeing and driving but wear readers for close up work. My prescription changes quite a lot so I get daily disposable lenses and just have loads of pairs if cheap reading glasses that I keep in my bag, in my desk at work, by my bed etc. I used to be so squeamish about even putting mascara on but I’m fine with my lenses now. I don’t let the optician put them in or take them out though, I have to do it myself.

I was scared to try them on, couldn't bear touching my eye ball, hence why I wear glasses.

The daily disposable ones are so thin you really can’t feel anything and you don’t touch your eye at all. You gently put the lens to your eye and it just sort of sticks on the fluid. It’s not like the old hard ones that used to make your eyes sore. An optician would let you try it out if you asked.

I’ve worn them for 23 years and have never had issues especially since moving to dailies.

"do you still bathe the eyes every now and then in optrex or isnt that necessary anymore?"

I’ve never needed to do that.

In 20 years of wearing lenses the technology behind their manufacture has changed and they now let more air through and as a result your eyes don’t dry out anywhere near as much as they used to.

I'll never wear them again.

I've lost vision on my left eye, due to an incident a few months ago.

Up til then I'd worn them for years without an issue.

I wish I could have laser treatment, but sadly it wouldn't work for me.
