The Union Jack should technically only be flown from a warship... So the premis of the OP is irrelevant. | |||

you forgot to mention that most of the north east are celtic by origins, with place names that bear striking similarity to modern welsh...

"Modern" Scots are actually of Irish decent, the Irish island hopped up the west coast, invaded the northern Celtic lands (they were pushed north by the Romans, Hadrians Wall and all that) and wiped them out, before settling down to populate Scotland. As for having the whole nation after you.... it reminds me of a joke that sums up the Welsh attitude to invaders. This Roman General is marching along with his troops when on top of a nearby hill, a Welshman appears and starts yelling insults. The General sends half a dozen soldiers after the Celt, who dissappears down the other side of the hill. There is the sound of battle being joined, then silence. Shortly after, the Celt appears again, so the General sends 30 men. Same thing happens, and the Celt reappears. This time, determined to get his man, the General sends 100 men. off they charge, and a great battle is heard on the other side of the hill. Then, when all is quiet, one lone, badly injured Roman soldier staggers over the hill, and with his last breath says "It's a trap, dont send anymore men, there are two of them!" | |||

It was added before the cross of St Patrick. So therefore the white cross is entitled to the higher position than that of the Red cross of St Patrick. Actually, is was you lot who got "conquered", we were just subjugated by force of arms, we fought on for hundreds of years. When the Romans, and then the Normans, invaded, they had to build huge castles or forts in Wales, and travel in huge armed columns, as they never felt safe enought to swan around like in the rest of the conquered UK.
The reason we dont have a representative part on the flag is that, technically we were never "invited" to join the union. Being a principality, also I think means a nod to our own Royal family, of whom Owain Glyndwr had the last proper claim.
Whilst the rest of you decided to roll over and play nice, we decided to rebel, and almost made it into a proper nationwide revolt, often being outnumbered 4 or 5 to 1 against trained knights on horseback and still winning (a matter of historical fact), and even, on one occassion, being outnumbered 10 to 1, and, when meeting the opposition, Owain Glyndwr was offered the chance to surrender, when he asked his men, they said they would fight and live, or fight and die..... mainly because, in old Welsh, there is no comparable word for surrender.... we didnt know how to do it lol!
you forgot to mention that most of the north east are celtic by origins, with place names that bear striking similarity to modern welsh...

It is a union flag any where its flown
and is only referd to as a "union jack" if the flag pole has a jack-staff fitted, that is the extra pole sticking out from the main flag pole. this is all ways on land based sites | |||

Pict is a Roman term i believe, and 'celt' is a term made up by a Welsh Nationalist and classicist in the mid 18th Century called Edward Llyudd. In the writings of Caesar, his generals and the historian Tacitus (who visited Britannia) the only term used (apart from Romanised Tribal names) is the word 'Britonculli' which very roughly translates as 'horrible little Briton'
As for the Normans, look up the Harrying of the North, a genocidal campaign against Northern England for it's refusal to bend the knee to Norman rule.
