Well I’ve put about a stone on since joining the site - so I blame Fab!

I’ll be starting a diet and fitness regime early next year!

It could be a reflection of the general population which continues to get larger on average.

May be a sign of changing body confidence after many recent high profile campaigns, maybe people feel freer to explore sexuality beyond size and shape.

Who knows

Even though I’m not concerned with my weight, my body isn’t ideal for me. It’s not that it’s not ideal for what’s considered healthy, I think I’m underweight and I’d like to be a little heavier than I am. But it’s a struggle if I try to gain weight. And I won’t be the only one that’s under the average BMI.

Anyhow, so when I hear or see someone putting on a little weight that that edges them over their ‘usual size’ I just think it a fluctuation thing and people shouldn’t worry.

Op, I agree with what you’ve said to a point. I think we are growing in size as a population, similar to USA have and are recognised for. (I’m not a doctor).

Is it an age thing? Do we generally put on weight as we get older, couldn’t it be that over the years you’ve been on and off that the users have aged along with you op?

It’s great that we get lots of confidence boosting threads/messages etc etc - but in my case it’s made me complacent too! I used to be a size 10, a regular gym attendee and fairly fit! I KNOW that’s not the be and end all - and I have more self confidence now than I did then - but I do think there needs to be more of a balance - for myself and perhaps for others who might have ‘lapsed ‘ recently - between having a positive body image/self confidence and in maintaining good health and fitness levels - I know I need to regain that balance very early in the new year before my health is detrimentally affected!

I find this post rather offensive to be honest. People have different reasons for being overweight; physical, emotional, medical etc. To just suggest "let's all lose weight and get healthy in 2019" is insulting. Who's going to provide the counsellors to those people who's issues run deep? Who's going to find the miracle drug that doesn't have a side effect on making you put on weight?

Why don't we stop concentrating on the physical and look at the person underneath; that's where real beauty lies. I, for one, can say that there are less beautiful people on fab than they would have you believe!!!

Having just returned from a four year hiatus I can't see any difference between now and then.

Still plenty of gym fit guys flexing their muscles and displaying ripped abs thinking that's what all the women like.

Still plenty of size 8 women clogging up the hot pics pages.

Still plenty of larger folk too.

The majority seem pretty happy and content with their lives and those that aren't don't fall into any size camp.

If you're basing your assumption on pics that you've been browsing then maybe the results are skewed by the photos you're looking at?

So no - I don't think anything's changed at all. Nor will it ever.

"I find this post rather offensive to be honest.

As long as the person in question is comfortable being whatever size they are, then its not really for anyone else to pass comment. Different strokes for different folks and all that...

Besides, in that context I'm pretty sure he was referring to people who are offended by things that, in the great scheme of things, are not important. Posts about being fat, ugly, skinny, old etc can be extremely hurtful

The rest, like me, are fucking lazy and eat too much.

I agree however weight is such an emotive issue for a lot of people, it's inevitable that people are going to be offended whenever it's bought up. Weight and body confidence issues are normally very deep rooted.

Exactly! Easily solved (unless it’s medical of course)

My weight’s always been up and down. If I put a stone on I know why! And no point moaning about it, I just do something about it. Many people are big and happy and good on them. When I put weight on I’m not happy.

But that's not all that was said. We have a variety of reasons why we might be overweight and there's no one answer. "

This is true! However - the majority of us - myself definitely included here - are putting weight on because - compared to previous generations - we eat more and exercise less! Most of us eat more processed food, drive more and walk less! This is an unarguable fact born out by very readily available statistics - and a million health reports and tv documentaries!

In my case I know it’s just laziness - I can’t blame underlying mental issues or any other factors other than arthritis and a slightly weak heart - which make being fit and healthy a little more difficult but certainly not impossible!

There are - and always will be - those who gain weight due to psychological issues/underlying health issues etc etc - but that certainly isn’t all of us!

I suggested a 2019 health and fitness thread as a mutual support group for others in the same boat as me! Not at any point did I - or would I - suggest that EVERYONE should feel compelled to come on board with this! There have been support threads on this and other areas on the forums for as long as Fab has been around! Surely that’s not a bad thing for those who want to give each other moral support?

If you’re going to slam that - then you may as well slam weight watchers and slimmers world too!!

And in answer to another poster - not at any time on this thread has there been an assumption that being slim equates to being beautiful!

The op simply asked for people’s opinion on weight trends on fab in recent years as far as I can tell - and I - answering only for myself - confirmed that I’ve put on weight since joining fab!

I agree with this to some extent, no it's not rocket science to know that if you sit on your bum all day and eat rubbish then you're going to get fat.

The problem is it isn't that simple for a lot of people mental health issues play apart and also as I said in a previous post weight and issues with food are deep-rooted for a lot of people. So yes in Theory it's very simple but in practice not so much. I know I'm overweight, I know the way to sort it out however I know this might sound like a cop-out but it isn't that simple I've got serious issues regarding my relationship with food so it's something a lot more deep rooted.

This will probably be an unpopular comment, but if you have a problem with what the OP has posted. It's because you have a problem with yourself.

Let's face it, fab caters to overweight women who might not fit into our vanity driven selfie taking culture, I think that's brilliant that this platform is here.

Why spend time and energy going back and fourth with the OP, use that same energy and put it into something that makes you happy.

Look good on the outside (your own perspective) = feel good on the inside = as a result of feeling good on the inside, this will show in the way you carry yourself. Love to all

Fab does reflect society and we do seem to be getting fatter.

Read a few of the posts and ..

People talk about ‘see the person not the size’ and that thinner people are somehow self-obsessed because how dare they look after themselves and more importantly their health.

The biggest problem with the increase in people being happy with being unhealthily overweight is that they’re storing up all sort of problems in the future. Increased diabetes risk, heart attack risk and cancer risk.

It’s not about going to the gym to lose weight, though it helps, but it’s about eating sensibly and calorie control.

If you’re happy to cut years off your life, on average, then feel comfirtable being fat but we shouldn’t normalise it. Some young fat people should be taken to see a blind or amputee diabetic so they see the real cost of thinking that being fat is only about how you look.

So you can’t be beautiful on the outside and beautiful on the inside OR ugly on the outside and ugly on the inside.

Lots of combinations are available

I used to do it for three years. It didn't affect my weight though. Never lost any weight, but good for cardio. Got really flexible and was able to run up the escalators on the tube without thinking about it.

Clearly you’ve never suffered from a medical condition where it affects your weight, which in my case it does along with hair problems too.

Up until 13 years ago I was a healthy weight for my height size 10-12 weighing around 8.5-9 stones until either the doctors find a cure/medication and not ones where they’ve only increased weight gain and not helped any of my symptoms to help with my condition or hopefully when the menopause kicks in it may help me. I am one of these people who does watch what they eat otherwise I would weigh a hell of a lot more than I do now. I am lucky to a degree as if this had kicked in when I was a baby or a child I probably wouldn’t be here now.

Posts like yours don’t help only come across as condescending if I’m honest, I mean seriously do you not think that most of us are aware of the health risks we face by being overweight?

Whilst I’m not looking for sympathy just wish people would realise that when weight problems are not always solved by being gym bunnies and calorie counting.

Rant over!

Don’t mean to be condescending or disrespectful just straight.

There will be people with medical conditions but those people will be in the minority and should get the condition treated. Did the condition you have exist in the 1950s when waist sizes were on average 6 inches smaller ?

For most people it’s just they take in more calories than they burn. We eat too much and do too little. For everyone who doesn’t have a medical condition, and that’s most, that’s the cause.

"I find this post rather offensive to be honest.

I, for one, can say that there are less beautiful people on fab than they would have you believe!!!"

I find this comment offensive, where’s my prize ?

I lose and gain around a stone every year

Fab has nothing to do with it.

I'm just a greedy fat cow.

I like booze and food and find it hard to moderate.

I'm sat at a packed train station and I'd say the majority are of normal / average size.

The obesity " crisis " is nonsense if you ask me - there have always been people of different shapes and sizes.

I would agree everyone has their own preferences and standards but in this specific case it was clear this couple had no intention in connecting with others and expected they would be approached.. I guessed from their demeanour.. Beautiful people fail.. Priceless..

Yes first known case was back in the late 1890’s but research wasn’t really started until the 1950’s where as some cases are lucky they can be treated to a certain degree of success others like myself just have to put up with it in the hope that either a cure or the menopause will help. This is an inherited disease you could have two or three children one of which could have the disease one could carry it but not be affected by it and another would be free of it.

Thanks!

Just looked and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with your profile!

I do think, though, if you try to make your profile funny and interesting - people are more likely to actually read to the bottom - and it also gives them an idea of what kind of person you are!

I think mine says I’m very confident but not narcissistic - and that I don’t take myself seriously! That’s what I was aiming for anyway!
