Either spelling is correct, as they mean different things according to the OED...
"Should of" really grinds my gears though, along with "been" (for "being") and the usual "your/you're" type thing. Oh, and "brought/bought".
Yes, it's a hard language, but some people make zero effort with even basic stuff.

I'm with you OP. To instead of too. There instead of their. Hear instead of here.
Spelling too. I just received a Flyer promoting the local shops which encourages people to "sumbit" an application for discounts on purchases. Did they not even think to use spellcheck before sending it out to all and sundry?! For goodness sake |
