I agree with Sulaco.
I can't go at the gym, I tried once but it was full of stereotyped people looking at themselves in the mirror while pushing weighs.
I prefer my sport at home than doing it in front of people anyway |

You honestly can get very good result if not better with only bodyweight |

I do enough of that through the military as their PT is all based around press ups, lunges, running and marching long distances while carrying a lot of kit. The gym is purely for me to grow "vanity muscles" |

Yes I get your point but I honestly think you can get big (no pun intended haha) with bodyweight only, and as Sulaco underlined it, the right diet |

I like it. But then my focus is on aerobic exercises rather than weights. I like being able to work out in a dry environment where I have a choice of equipment. Sure, there is a smattering of narcissistic members but they don't bother me - I don't really give a shit. Their choice. The other bonus is that my gym has a sauna which I LOVE winding down in after my workout. Just wish I had the time to go more often |

I drive to the gym, get the lift upstairs and jump on the running machine and then the stepposizer, then drive home.
I enjoy being in an environment with mirrored walls and bad lighting.

I go to the gym 3-4 times a week. The last 3 months I have changed my routine I now do 20 - 25 minutes on the bike doing a fat burning bike ride then 4 sets 10 - 12 reps on 2 - 3 of the weight resistance machines.I feel stronger yet lighter. |

I agree with what most of you are saying. Although I go to the gym 5 times a week and stay there for 2 hours minimum, it is exactly what you think of it.
Egos walking around, creeps, pervert and insecurity filled individuals.
However you can find this in nearly any social environment. I guess it appeals to different crowd, everyone have their own reasons to attend.
You meet some good people and you meet some dickheads but the main point is that you do it for yourself. |

Anybody that does not like the gym environment has a battle bigger on thier hands than the dislike of the gym or exercise itself. I hate exercising. But I love the gym, they are two entirely different things. It amazing how anyone can find something negative in something so positive. |

I hate the gym but love the studio classes at the gym - I need someone bossing me about to work out. I love the trainers who can get at every target muscle without equipment.

I don't know what the rates are like where you live.
But I've never met a PT who charges that |

For £80 an hour I’d want them to lift the weights for me, rub me down afterwards and I’d be disappointed if I wasn’t Olympic athlete shredded by the end of the year |

I love the gym, wish I could make it over more often. I think you need to find the right gym though, they can vary a lot in terms of core clientele which can make them intimidating/posey/unappealing. |

The gym is a fashion statement these days. It's 'cool' to go to the gym. I prefer going early in the mornings.
Sad times. Hence why steroids have become so popular, along with clearasil and Viagra .

No gym for me but I swim a mile 2 or 3 times a week. It clears my brain while keeping fit.
I walk past the gym windows on the way there and see people huffing and puffing but it's not for me. Did try years ago though.

3-4 times a week. Love the weights, learning to tolerate other bits too. Aren't that many egos at mine, and they're easily ignored. I'm there to work out not interact.
Does great things for mental health, chronic pain, etc. |

Aw for a few quid more hang round out side I'm sure you could get crack cocaine too xxx ha ha
I enjoy the gym ,I enjoy yoga I enjoy working out , I enjoy outside activities , I enjoy bodyweight home exercises, I enjoy climbing mountain biking and surfing , I enjoy the positive hormones that exercising produces and I enjoy the amazing things my body can do and hope that the gym will aid me along with cooking a tasty nutritious and varied diet to enjoy doing very stupid enjoyable things for as long as possible
I have zero idea why many ridicule the gym life usually by endorsing or condoning short term quick pleasure fixes and lounging ?

The gym is one of those "to-do" things I never get around to. I just don't know where I'd find the time.
Luckily I have a pretty active 3 year old who keeps me fit! |

Lifting weights is one method of tackling depression
See hormones above
I again always find the demonstration of disdain towards a positive a very strange reaction? |

Never thought I'd ever say this but I love it. Not the dragging my arse down there, or the exercise itself, but the fantastic mood boost afterwards. If I stop going for a couple of weeks, I feel miserable. Beats happy pills by a mile! |

I go to the gym normally a few times a week. Sort of force of habit. But I no gym bunny, just like to maintain a certain level of core fitness and not become the size of a house (complete with garage and attic conversion). I sort of have a responsibility to the kids to stay healthy and set a good example. But lately I wonder why I pay and go to the gym. There is lots of great exercise you can door outdoors and with the minimum of equipment. So I am contemplating cutting the gym lose and going back to basics with my training. But then I also remember how nice the pool is at the gym. |

Calisthenics training "
Huge admirer of those who can perform calisthenics
I climb, free run and a wannabe gymnast I have rings hanging at work
I'm fairly strong but no where near as strong as the cali guys and girls
Long story short , it is often touted that no need for a gym use body weight training
Now despite being a huge advocate, the real fact is without a lot of knowledge and understanding training with body weight is actually too hard for most and they give up too soon
Making body weight exercises easier requires an understanding of biomechanics
Ironically many gyms exist to provide lighter weights and progressive exercises to build up to body weight training

Pull ups being a perfect example. Not many people can comfortably do sets of 10. It's a massive compound move, the same as most body weight exercises. Hence why people avoid them!
Going to the gym you end up isolating muscle groups, which has it's on set of benefits. Compound training covers a handful of muscle groups so you reap the rewards!
Either way, you only get one body so you may aswell look after it!!! |

We used to go to our local gym but then invested in a home gym and have everything we need there. Both of us enjoy weight training and have bikes for the summer months. Lots of places to ride in Surrey.
Sexersize is my personal favourite though.

The bros are full of it and easily ignored. The impressive ones aren't trouble. |
