"I’m going to London, not been there near Christmas for years.
Where are the best lights? Was thinking of going to Hamleys and Libertys.
" liberty's is great for quirky things and hamleys great for kids, Oxford Street for lights but everywhere has something, try the ice bar |

Oxford Circus good start point and then you can see the lights in Oxford St and Regent St and you have Selfridges windows too as well as Hamley's and Liberty's, etc. I hope you like crowds and christmas hustle and bustle as you can't beat Oxford St at christmas for that. |

I like the Regent St lights but think the Oxford St ones are rubbish!! The Strand looks really pretty this year but Seven Dials lights were totally magical last year. I agree the Kew light trail looks fabulous too - I've booked for it's sister site out in the sticks.
I find Winter Wonderland really naf now, I think they ruined it. There are also small free xmas markets on the South Bank and Leicester Square though. Enjoy! |

"Nice restaurants down by waters edge near shard
Some of them have igloo outside for warm alfresco eating."
Yeah I found those really bizarre - have your office party while the whole world wanders by and stares at you!!?? |

I'd advise staying away from Hyde Park Winter Wonderland, it's naf, expensive and too busy to see anything unless you go during the day, and then it's just like a giant funfair.
Hamleys is equally busy, at certain times they have a queuing system on the door. But worth it if you are just window shopping and not actually buying anything. I love Liberty's so I'm biased, but it is worth going. Harrods is fun too, but don't try to go in if you have a suitcase or overnight bag, they won't let you in with it.
Oxford Street, Bond Street and Soho for the lights. |

Funny how winter wonderland gets a lot of mentions but no one I know likes but everyone gets dragged there. I've never been. Oxford steet and regents street arent looking as gawdy ad they used with the lights. Theres usually a xmas market on south bank too. |

"Winter wonderland
Was there Saturday. Far too many people. Long ques for everything. Overpriced food and beer. £9 a ride "
Personally I think winter wonderlands should be free rides provided by the local coucils as a way of saying thank you to the local people. |

I like Christmas hustle and that’s what I remember from my last Christmas visit. |

"I went a few years ago with kids, we used the buses the whole time and got to see most that way.
Covent garden and soho are great too.
Winter wonderland was fun but very very pricey and busy. "
Covent Garden is one of my favourite spots. |

"Actually restaurants by London Eye stretching down to Waterloo bridge can be fun to and entertainment can be worth a visit "
The Embankment is good, hoping the weather is dry |

"If you want a good time Christmas and New Year you should try Brixton and Peckham. Leave the touristy place and go see the real London"
Yes I know what you mean, part of my family are Londoners but have moved out mostly to Kent now. |

"Try out one of the ice rinks. Check out the ones at Canary Wharf, Natural History Museum or Somerset House. Or the rooftop ones at John Lewis Oxford Street or at Tobacco Dock."
They sound really good. |

"Winter wonderland in Hyde Park is good
Busy as heck but good. Only £203 for a burger and £89 for a hot choc. "
- yeah don't go to Winter Wonderland it's overpriced overcrowded and a bit tacky
You could take a walk down the South Bank by the river in the day time - end up at Borough Market - still pricey but much smaller and less annoying.
Then get on the tube to Harrods and walk around Knightsbridge.
Then to Regents Street to see the Angel lights - they're lovely.
As are the shops |

I think winter wonderland is worth doing once but I wouldn’t go again. All of the main places look fantastic. Oxford St and Regent St, John Lewis always looks great with their lights. I love all of it! It’s not a shithole at all! Parts of it are but it’s just like everywhere else. I love the fact I live in a small quiet village but can be in London by train in half an hour. Best city in the world |
