-Android type 7.1 or higher
-2gb ram or higher
-Quad-core/octo-core cpu multi threading
-5inch screen or bigger
If you want a budget phone to keep your direct debits down get a "Huawei" P10 series
If you want hop of the line brands stick to Samsung for style or Sony for performance |

Sony still makes phones ?
Samsung is about hardware and beautiful displays not performance, it's outperformed by variety of Androids and the iPhone |

Sony xperia phones are very good. The camera on the P20 Pro enticed me away from the Xperia at my latest upgrade though |

If camera is that important why not a Pixel 3, third year in a row leading as the best camera in a smartphone |

If you're looking for a whole package then Samsung or OnePlus in my opinion.
The latter being half the price. |

"I've got an S9 Plus, it's been a good phone so far "
Snap!
I am too late, but let this go in the archives.
I recently upgraded to S9+ and can recommend it. It's a cool phone with all the latest tech you could possibly want. Will be interesting to know what the OP decided |

When is your upgrade due?
Samsung is planning to release their next Galaxy line in January at CES if you don't mind waiting |

It's due about a week before Christmas. I'd like to go back to PAYG but I'm not forking out mad money for a new phone. |

It's not so much budget, it's the fact that I can't justify €700+ for a phone that does fuck all at the end of the day!
It feels like paying for style, not substance. |

Neither could I that's why I researched phones for 6 months before buying. I probably won't get a new one until the battery on this one starts giving up.
OnePlus 6T is €550 in Ireland.
It's the newer version of mine but I bought an older model since it was on offer at black friday.
Good camera
128gb of storage
Best optimised Android (runs smooth)
Current fastest processor
In display finger print scanner
But no headphone jack if you're not using Bluetooth headphones it may be a deal breaker. |
