What is a voice thread? Like a talkie version of the forum?

People recorded things and posted links to them.

Hahaha fantastic.

I'm imagining one particular forumite with a little high voice like David Beckham...

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

"Anyone else find this very soothing?"

The only time I ever hear it is when the cricket is interrupted by it, so it's always frustrating to hear.

"Anyone else find this very soothing?"

I do, it’s odd really because I have no idea what half of it means. I say half but I mean any of it!

It must be how cats feel when we talk to them, they like the sound of it but have no idea what we're on about.

I never used to understand it, but I enjoyed listening to it so much I learned most of it.

Hefty Hideaway

I never gave much thought to the shipping forecast until the funniest episode of Black Books ever. Now I’m just disappointed it isn’t Peter Serafinowicz. If it comes on the radio though I like trying to work out what the heck it’s on about.

There's a great book called Attention All Shipping written by my friend Charlie Connelly where he visits all the areas in the forecast.

Buy it - Charlie needs to eat!

In case anyone is really interested:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shipping_Forecast

It is interesting to listen to and amazing that it's still on with all the technology these days. Did you know that other countries have their own versions?

Seaside Sussex

Living on the coast of N Devon we used to listen out for Lundy, Fastnet Irish Sea. Once the announcer said "Winds westerly force 6 rising to gale force 8... GOOD!"

'stopped listening to the shipping forecast after that

I love it too. Being warm in bed and hearing about the high seas is soothing.
