Is it just me or are there other people out there, men or women who dislike being referred to as 'babe, hun, princess etc'?
I don't mind it from my husband. But from total strangers..... It makes me want to throw up. |

However.....
I rip throats out when someone calls me "Kitty Kat"
Did they not want to take a break "
They probably thought I was a pouch of unidentifiable meat in aspic! |

Unfortunately in Cornwall it's something you have to get used to! Weird as he'll when a 21 year old girl calls you bird or lover ... when messaging though it's just unnecessary and discourteous |

Oh sorry Hun I thought this thread was about the talking pig film.
But I agree if you don’t know the person why call them babe hun etc? When I have an attractive young female call me Babe I think I’m in with a chance. |

"Is calling a woman love OK? Not a partner etc just as a term of endearment.
That one sits alongside darlin' for me - uber patronising." Older Ladies call me love all the time in a bakers, hairdressers etc Doesn't bother me in the slightest. It's a generational thing I think. |

I am not keen on babe and hun and wouldn’t use the term myself, but if I like the guys profile and pics I will let it slide. There are bigger things in the world to get upset about |

Really can’t stand it, specially from strangers. Can justify it if it’s someone you know well. |

I think that's a northern thing too" It's just a term of endearment and comes down to personal preference I think. Some may think it has to be earned etc. |

"Ok, so we've established the majority of women in this thread don't like those phrases, which begs the question, what is acceptable?"
Think people don't mind it so much out in life as it is a location/generational term of endearment but in messages it unacceptable...
Try using their name above the personal details? |

Totally agree. We don’t even use that terminology between ourselves but each to their own. |

I thought it was about in life generally, not just on here.
Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't! The OP`s screen name doesn't for example. |

Personally its the ones that call you beautiful that you should steer clear of...especially when its a pic of your arse thats on display and not your face...trust me mate, my arse is better looking
I use luv, darlin', sweetheart (usually sarcastically) and old cock...definitely a northern thing |

Don't mind if someone I knew very well called a 'sweet' name or in actual chatting if I knew it was a regional thing, but in an opening message it's grates my teeth.
But I do call ladies "Lovey" & men "Matey' always have...
Sorry if I've ever offended anyone xxx |

My username is Lou Bricate ... so do get called Lou and that is better than babe/hun etc but if someone has read my profile then my name is Amy ... that's much better and even more respectable. It's a good start |

Yeah, in your case either work. Personally I don't use Babe or Hun with people I don't know, including on here, as its too familiar, but I do wonder why people get so wound up by things that aren't intended to be insulting. |

Exactly ... I think in life it's fine, though not my thing just when messaging a stranger a little disrespectful and whilst it doesn't bother me at all, I probably wouldn't meet them |

Yes... I dislike babe and princess... I'm used to hun though, because it's actually how most people are usually addressed where I come from. Even the parish priest will call people hun
I tend to find terms like Dabe and Princess very false and smarmy from people I don't know. It's overfamiliar and I don't like it. |

Being a cpl but replying to all messages ( I the male). I find it disrespectful when we have messages starting “hey babe”!
It’s a cpls profile so what makes them think they’re talking to wifey?
We recently had a message off a guy who started his message “ hey babe, I’d show your man how to use your mouth” so I deleted. No face pic as it says on our profile, on over a year and no varifications, then puts a status, a reply would be respectful.
LMAO.
Any single guys that wants attack my reply In here, feel free. My skins to thick to care.
Respect goes a long way.
BIG up to you OP |

As a displaced Londoner, its unfortunately hard-wired into my lingo
Blokes are "mate" and ladies are "sweetheart", "treacle" or "lovely"
Its not meant in anyway derogatory or to cause offence its just simply the syntax I use
Its the same as my inability to use the letter H or T when talking
Bu'er- yellow stuff you spread on toast
'ome- place where you live
Wa'er- wet stuff
I could go on.....
