Do you mean the Sydney University stuff etc? Where did that come from?

Sheep, some see it on other profiles and think I need to do that without realising how stupid it is.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

It's a useful filter.

Nobody says "I'm a gullible cretin" in their text, so this forms a useful alternative.

Have you seen the one that refers to law USS-1701?

LOL, that was the "Enterprise Act" passed by US Congress I believe

Fabswingers actually ask for people to remove disclaimers like that, just check out their statement on them in the sites FAQ pages.

But, sheep will be sheep.....

If admin really wanted rid of it, they could run a script every night to strip out specific sequences of words.

Probably knock a few Mb off the database size, make the site a millisecond quicker for everybody.

I don't see anything wrong with being cautious.

I wouldn't pass over a profile purely because they have a warning on it.

I think it's a bit daft having it on your profile, but I also wouldn't rule out meeting someone just because they have it. I've met people with nothing written in their profile before.

Not worth the effort of trying to create a script. But this is what they actually have to say on the matter:

We've noticed a legal disclaimer paragraph that some people have on their profiles. Should we have one too? What are they about? Do they do any good?

The "legal disclaimer" is pointless nonsense and all does is take up extra space on our servers. Please remove it if you have it on your profile. If you're worried about privacy please set your account to be hidden from non-registered users on your privacy page (this also hides it from search engines but may take a week or two to drop out of search) and remove the notice (and encourage others to do likewise).

Common sense advice would be NOT to put any information on your profile (here, or on any such site) that could identify you or that you don't want to become public! So for your own benefit, don't post phone numbers, real names or email / instant message addresses on your profile that people might see or "Google".

Some people may put non-identifying pics on their public profile but keep face pics private or for friends, for example.

Doesn't impact my life but that also doesn't mean I can't start a thread about it and have a discussion

I'm gonna ask a solicitor if he'd prosecute a case of picture theft for me. I've seen someone using my tape measure, and I'm not happy about it. I reckon $185.75m should cover my trauma and inconvenience.

Sure why but if it's an original work of yours and someone has used it without permission you'd be fully entitled they however has nothing to do with what was being discussed.

Thanks.

Apparently, they have to have the disclaimer because "Facebook is a public traded company" and without the magic words, they will take your pictures and share them with everyone you ever met.

How are they a waste of time? Don't read them if you don't want to!

People are entitled to their own disclaimers, even the nutty 'Facebook' one. They do make *some* sense, as I can tell you as a graphic designer, people will only pilfer what isn't visibly copyrighted. (Yes, I know, we also have Fab's terms and a natural ownership too, but that's a bit ambiguous by nature).

The question of course is, who is even *looking* at us? (All kinds of people are probably here reading us imo, profiles and forums posts!)

And who is anyone to say people can't do it? It's almost become a thing here now to say, Look I don't do it!

Who cares?

There is also the one about not using photos from the profile.

Whatever the footer, how will anyone find out whether the information or pics are being used elsewhere and what are they going to do about it?

You need knowledge of international law and endless resources to pursue any miscreants in the courts.

If we cut the forum down to things that are sufficiently important to talk about, the forum would cease to exist

somerset

people are free to put on ''their'' profile as they wish after all its their profile ...as long as the rules of the site are followed then no harm ...

i do use it as a filter tho as i only meet guys via fab i notice guys generally add it to there profile as a filler and to me that a sign of super lazy and no effort ...i dont want to meet people who cant be bothered to write a small profile
