Bodybuilding Competition

As ridiculous as the idea is, I fancy giving it a shot in a couple of years time when I hit 40.

I've got a two friends who are pros, and they'll help as much as they can (they live the other side of the world).

But I wondered is there anyone on here who has taken part in a body building show?

Never taken part in one (obviously).

But my brother has for years, and has won a good few times, he’s 43. So go for it!

Going to hammer it for 6 months, see what progress I've made and if it's positive, crack on for the next 18 months.

I have trouble getting the timber off. But the plan is to lean bulk first.

"

Every day I do 9 different strength (machines/freewieghts) 3 set/10 rep

Run between 1.5 and 6 mile...

Except Tuesday/Thursday thai boxing and swimming.

I do just 1 hour per day.

I've been doing that for 1 year.

I tried "bulking" years ago but I got mantits and a belly.

I simply don't think everyone is suited to gaining mass like that without gym juice...

I could never see mo farrah and Frankie detori ever being body builders no matter how hard they try.

The energy is better spent elswhere.

No wonder you're so lean doing all that.

If you want to compete you will have to succeed getting the timber off

It will be harder than you think and you will need to lose more than you think

And it will take longer than you think

However with the correct attitude correct training and an evolving understanding of your body you can do it

Just remember progressive overload and if you start adding more than a kilo every month your bulk is not a lean one

You will need to understand how to manipulate insulin

And to cut to body builder level you will need to deal with hunger

I used to love swimming, and back in the day I was fairly good (swam for my town) the problem is now because of work getting to a swimming baths in the morning isn't an option because there isn't anywhere open. Going swimming in the evening again isn't an option because of the way they set the pools and classesup near me.

Going to try a little bit of running on non gym days

It's hard, really fucking hard.

The gym is the easy bit, eating is also easy.

Cutting the weight is the hardest bit and stinking to plan. I tried it once about 5 years ago, not afraid to say I gave up as it was too hard

You never know, I might do to. But I think I've got some good people round me to help me push on.

I'm sure you'll give it a good go. If you've got some support that will help.

Hiding in the shadows

I don't compete now,

but I'm part of a team train people who do.

One of my ladies recently won her physique catorgary at the nationals, then went on to be overall World Champ.

It's seriously hard work to get to that level & maintain it all season.

It requires total dedication & sacrifice.

My mates didn't do so well in that. They got a "guru" but he got it wrong. They looked better in the national qualifiers

Mahogany Ronseal works the best It doesn't look silly under stage lights, any muscular definition would just disappear without it.

Central

You don't know until you undertake the activity, just how your results will be and what your experience and enjoyment of it will be. It's good that you are educating yourself first. I know several very big guys, typically naturally. Be realistic for your expectations, so you retain upbeat motivation. Losing fat once you are established within training, without losing muscle can be tough - it's easier for you now.

Assume that you will need to make drastic dietary adjustments and management once underway. Your current testosterone levels will be lower than when you were younger, so you have a slight disadvantage compared to if you had started then but your age is perfect for starting now.

It's worth considering how a different body style could affect your results gaining partners here, as different people have preferences for male partners too.

I have very little luck meeting on here as it is, so a change might not be a bad thing.
