Why use a made up word that half the population don't overly understand(me included) to highlight the struggles of discrimination etc that women go through. Why not do this in English or whichever native tongue your country speaks? Is it not just confusing the matter?

It's bullshit is what it is. Changing the spelling of woman to erase the idea that women are an extension of man.

Essex.

Personally I think it's nonsense but it's meant to be inclusive of transgender women.

Being honest, I don't know many transgender women but none of them appear to be offended being called a woman.

Apparently it's pronounced woman/women...

So makes even less sence to me...

It's another case of cis gendered people (I don't really fet3 that term either but for the case of this debate I'll use it) decided what the trans community are offended by.

But like non Muslims/sikhs/Jehovah witnesses etc deciding that Christmas is offensive to those religions so we shouldn't go throwing if in their faces.

For the majority it's bullshit. There will always be some extremes in any group who have issues with the 'norm' but personally j think stunts like this undermine the actual genuine issues faced by the groups they claim they are trying to help.

It’s ridiculous

Why change our language to this extent is it truly offensive ?

I do get it, all words used to describe the fair sex has the term male or man

But why take offence now it’s been like this from year dot

If you think about it perhaps makes need to rethink as all words to describe us are abbreviations of the words to describe the feminine side of the species

Ie man is a shortened version of woman

It reminds me of the time I overheard a conversation in the office where someone thanked a lady for some work they'd done and told her she was their "hero" - her totally serious and not at all tongue in cheek reply?

The problem with intersectionality....you keep breaking people down into smaller and smaller subsets and then turn them against each other.

Everybody ushered this stuff in with open arms...."feminism is just about equality" and other seemingly innocuous well meaning messages were bought wholesale by the public over the last 4 years as this stuff has been going mainstream.

Hopefully the trend will die off soon but I worry about those raised on this shit. The wow just wow generation.

New words occur all the time spellings change periodically if someone wants to use it let them I say its no skin off my nose and I won't be using it. I do find it amusing though all the dummies thrown out of the pram on this thread which is probably more pathetic than someone coming up with a new word/selling.

Yep. Of all the things happening in the world at the moment, someone trying to invent a new word isn't really the greatest threat to civilisation.

"It’s ridiculous

What's offensive is highly subjective...that's the problem.

I say this all the time...the direct meaning of words and their intended effect are different.

I can call my friends cunts in the nicest of playful ways or use it with venom in a fight. Get the difference?

It's the fundamental flaw to all this controlled speech messing....context, body language, intonation and intent.

Wow just wow

You won't be using it until it's enforced...legally or social acceptability.
