"To narrow down a whole decade of music and select pick one track as the best, to the serious music lover thats the equivalent of the film 'sophies choice' "
So you're saying you couldn't put one record on right now from 1980s? |

It’s so difficult as there’s so many different genres I like too.
But I’ll go for Atlantic City by Bruce closely followed by Soft Cell Say hello wave goodbye |

I *know* 'not best', though its personal choice. What I like is not going to be the same as other people, which is why it's fun reading threads like this. |

There and to the left a bit |
I could be here all night listing contenders but if I had to pick just one it would have to be from my favourite band (who coincidentally I shall be seeing twice this coming weekend at Butlins) and the biggest selling singles band of the 80s.....
......Embarassment - Madness
Possibly the finest 3 minute odd pop song with a darker meaning that you'll ever come across - has a touch of Motown, great driving brass and Suggs deadpan vocal keeping it moving |

It was a VERY close second. Particular great version on Verona live. Want to limit to one per group. |

New Life - Depeche Mode. No wait a minute, Purple Rain - Prince, No hang on a minute, way too many classics to choose but I would say Fade to Grey - Visage if I had too

"pretty much all of them, best decade for music "
There was some good stuff in the 80’s but in common with all decades there was an awful lot of dross. This was the decade that gave us Jive Bunny FFS! |

Did you know that Jive Bunny later went on to become the Tidy Boys who dominated the UK hard house clubbing scene in the late 90's to mid 00's? |

In the end it took me dictionary,
To find out the meaning of unrequited,
While she was giving herself for free,
At a party to which I was never invited.
The Saturday Boy by Billy Bragg, summed up my 1980s romantic achievements |
