I had had a particularly rubbish day. Then when in a coffee shop on the way home I came to buy my coffee but the card machine was broken. Darn it I thought, but then the lady behind me in the queue bought it for me. Renews my faith in human nature. Hope to pay it forward.

Six months ago when I was in a "financial spot of bother" someone gave me a sofa they could've sold.

I've just been able to buy two new sofas and gifted the other one (along with a few other bits) to a family who are moving into a new home with no money left. It's great to pass things forward

I love stuff like this, I sometimes lose faith that people are good. I hope you do pay it forward x

I think people are inherently good but life is busy

It always surprises me just how kind people are. The capacity for kindness in some people knows no bounds and I’m truly grateful to everyone who takes the time to show it.

Hmmmm...

OP you have fab abs, so this is why people are 'kind' to you.

Everybody else who commented...I'm happy for you that experience kindness & believe that people are truly good.

However, life isn't this.

Generally, people are self serving, self absorbed & self-referential. Kindness is perceived as a weakness & I have to work REALLY hard, really, really hard not to be taken advantage of. I appear to be in parallel universe in a juxtaposition, although I would like to share your opinions.

I am blessed through a work capacity to know some truly wonderful, caring people and get to know more all the time.

Sounds like you have been hurt by someone close. I KNOW that feeling, but don't let it tarnish your personality. Rise above.

I try to do this or something like it once a week. I’ve paid for people’s shopping a couple of times when their cards have declined, or similar. If I don’t get that chance I usually make a point of buying food for the food bank. It’s a good feeling.

A lady who wasn't local had stopped and asked me where she could get a taxi from, she had to be at the local hotel resort and had no clue where she was or how to get there, it was freezing cold, and she only had a thin coat on, I rang a few taxis who couldn't help, or said she had to wait an hour, couldn't leave her, so I gave her my padded coat, while I went to fetch my car and drive her myself.

It was literally 5 minutes away, tried giving me money for diesal but told her to pay the kindness forward, pass it along.

I always try offer kind gestures where I can, always tell the recipient to pay it forward.

That's so sweet. I have done similar to someone who ran for a bus and they set off, I picked them up and they were shocked I asked, and drove them in front of the bus. And the caught it two stops along. Wanted to give me something but I refused.

I've had random acts of kindness done for me before and I always try and do that back. Life is too short and we should all help each other when we can

Was shopping with my little'n the other day. She picked up the biggest bag of pasta on the shelf(5kg bag) I asked her what it was for and she replied its for the food bank box at the front of the store. She remembered from a shop we did about a month ago when I had done it. Melted my heart.

A few years ago I had a puncture, up on Cannock Chase in the snow!

As I was contemplating the flat tyre a complete stranger stopped and changed my tyre for my spare for me- I asked him if I could get his details so I could send him reparation but he wouldn't have it.

It's not the only time I have been on the receiving end, but suffice it to say that there are lots of good, decent, kind people around!

I give back when I can too x

When my sister in law passed away and I took on her 7 month old baby, the kindness from friends and friends of friends was amazing. We had nothing for this little baby and they all helped out whatever way they could. So I always try to help people where I can

This is a lovely thread for me to come back to to see what people do.

I used to go out in the snow with my 4x4 and pull people out of ditches. Many offered money but I declined. Other stuff too. I try to make a difference whenever I can.

Kindness is one of the most important things in life and you will never have a completely bad day if you show it at least once.

Last time it heavily snowed I was out in my 4x4 and went out of my way to help people out.

Always gives me a nice warm feeling helping other people

I occasionally buy lunch for a homeless guy if I see him sitting outside Sainsbury's. He's not a beggar but I prefer this to just handing over money. He's always appreciative.

Cheered me up reading these!

I’ve become very cynical in my old age but at least there are still good people out there!

Hefty Hideaway

I got flowers delivered to work from the most unexpected person this week. It made my day when I really needed it.

I bought a lady a hot chocolate at the shop yesterday. She was in a bit of a tizz and I sat with her whilst she tried to calm herself down. We sipped our hot chocolates in silence but afterwards she thanked me sincerely. Sometimes it’s nice to not be alone.

I was coming home from a long day of meetings and shopping on Tuesday, it was freezing cold and I’d been hanging around waiting for a taxi to come in for a long time. I was beyond cold and my hands had gone completely numb. This kind man who was in a taxi but not working saw me and offered me a lift home for free. Was much appreciated x

I stopped to grab a coffee at m&s on the way to hospital to visit my relative, I asked for change for the parking meter and explained where I was going. The lady serving me gave me a bunch of flowers and said here give these to your relative, and wished them well. So lovely of her
