Manchester (she/her)

Best: research.

Worst (and worst paid): call centre. Death threats over trivial things (we didn't deal with anything serious) for minimum wage. Hooray!

Don't really have a worst. Washing pots at 15 wasn't brilliant but a great laugh. Best is a toss up between bar management or wine merchant

Thailand is really good..

Teaching in thailand is the WORST job. They have public holiday declorations on random days when you turn up for work. School dinners contain brains/eyeballs.

The staff room was full of global misfits. You must buy simple things like paper. The school didn't provide printer/photo copy or any materials.

The toilets are shared with the children and there is no toilet paper/locks on door/soap

It's really HOT...you must wear pants and a silly different gay looking t-shirt every day and stand for the anthem at 7am.

40,000 baht per month in pattaya is living like a mini Prince but teaching itself is a vocation for people who were born to love the job...

I hated the staff room. It was like a toxic office environment with some very bad apples.

York

Best - military, for the banter with the lads and getting to do a lot of things I probably wouldn't have otherwise.

Worst - it's a toss up between the summer I did in a poultry factory and the two years I did in an extremely busy call centre.

Best - temp job working for a plumbing company. I was responsible for updating the stock control system as orders were processed. I had my own private office, unrestricted internet access, my own printer and about 2 hours work to do per day.

Worst - working in a warehouse on the night shift. Quit after one night.

I did have a job whereby over the course of a year or so, I managed to delegate almost everything which was pleasant for a couple of weeks then I got bored and started bringing it all back again.

I work as the IT guy at a school, it's a great job. There are loads of great folk and every day is different. Obviously the lack of funding adds extra challenges to the job, but all in all its a great job.

Best was working in Asia on and off for 17 years, but I felt I needed to be more at home and didn’t want to travel as much.

Worst ops manager in London, the company didn’t want to pay suppliers but were willing to pay £1000’s entertaining clients, an unworkable situation

Worst was probably when younger and out of work on the buildings and took a job advertised as a factory labourer which was actually a cleaner, was 12 hour shifts and you could do everthing in 4 but still had to look busy or so meaning the days felt long as fuck. Think I lasted 2 days.

Both are my current job.

I love the job I do, it’s hands on technical work on some advanced aviation equipment. It sometimes includes researching and testing new prototypes.

But it can be long drawn out days, away from home for a while at a time and doesn’t leave much time for a “normal” day to day life.

"Toilet cleaner and teacher. You choose "

I've done both.

Teaching early years is worse and you come in contact with more germs.

Atleast cleaning toilets you wear gloves.

But 4 year olds hands are really grubby and they maul everything.

Best thing about cleaning toilets I always say:

"I would prefer to clean the shit from your arse than aknowledge the shit from your mouth"

Because as "facilities manager" no petty office politics supervisor was allowed to disturb me doing my job.

In teaching I always had to be political in the staff room.

Teaching is horrible for most people doing it as a "job". They deserve more respect. Only SOME people were born to be teachers...the rest are just stuck in a soul destroying career they regret choosing.
