I've got my mum coming over for a meal next weekend and plan to try to make a cake and pudding to surprise her and preferably not make her ill
I'm happy making meals but have never made cakes or puddings
Any suggestions for a virgin, something that's yummy and doesn't take 43 ingredients |

Syrup or jam sponge pudding is easy. Four ounces of flour sugar & butter plus two eggs put these in a bowl whisk to a dropping consistency and in a microwaveable bowl put golden syrup or strawberry jam put the sponge mix on top put in the microwave for around four to five mins and then serve with a lovely fresh custard from the chiller cabinet from most supermarkets! |

"I did think of buying one and claiming it was my effort but she'll see straight through it.
I'd rather try even if it makes her laugh "
correct attitude, you make it she will appreciate it all the more |

Do not attempt a victoria sponge if you have never made a cake before lol!
Apple crumble is really easy, and get some Waitrose fresh madagascan vanilla custard to go with it, it's LUSH!
Go for an easy cake for tea like a flapjack or something hard to mess up! |

"Trifle
I think jelly might be more my standard "
Trifle is easy. Layer of booze-soaked sponge (which you can buy ready made), layer of fruit (fresh or tinned) layer of custard (ready made from a carton) topped with whipped cream. Personally I think jelly ruins it |
