Don't modern cars have handbrakes? Every car I had to sit behind at lights etc on the way home from work didn't seem to have one because the driver had to use the brakes to keep their car stationary, ffs!
Anybody find this irritating? |

Most modern cars have automatic handbrake or anti roll back systems so not many use them these days. I drive an automatic but leave it in drive and keep my foot on the brake- I'm just lazy |

I'm guessing you don't mind burning your clutch out then? |

I only use my handbrake in a traffic jam
In fact it took me six months to realise my car had auto stop after I bought it. I put the handbrake on on one rare occasion and my engine cut out and I thought I had stalled it lol |

That's quite scary to think that people are driving vehicles without actually knowing how to operate them |

I love it when you pull up to a red light and the stationary car in front has to press his brakes on just to let you see he's stationary even though you can see the big piece of coloured metal in front of you and you are slowing to a halt |

I did say if its a long light I do. I have been driving longer than I can remember, I have only had to replace a clutch once and that was under warranty because the part failed. |

How can you tell? Do you mean by their brake lights being on? I was taught to still keep my foot on the brake even with the handbrake on. No idea why. I only take it off if I'm in a traffic Jam when I go into neutral too so I can rest my legs. |

Yes I hate this with a passion. These LED lights are like laser beams on your retinas.
Although I did notice on my van that when I stop on a hill and the hill assist kicks in, that even though I've taken my foot off the brake, the brake lights stay on for the few seconds that it holds. I've yet to test if I stop on a hill and put the handbrake on that the brake lights then go off.
But I do use my handbrake all the time I'm stationary for more than a few seconds. |

This gets my goat too.
I've been driving since 1996. Class II trained, ex taxi driver and transit/7.5 tonne driver for over ten years.
Why the handbrake needed to be reinvented, confuses the hell outta me.
Once upon a time the hand brake was typically (I know there are exceptions) in the centre console. Now that unwritten convention has gone out of the window/windscreen.
As I have worked this summer at a car auction, I have driven thousands of cars from Smart to Maserati and everything in between. Here are the locations of the elusive hand brake levers/buttons
Top of the steering column, on the gear lever
Centre console as a window controller style button
Centre console as a twisty style with the gears
On the dash as a lever
On the dash as a button
There's more locations, but this hurts my head too much.
Don't even get me started on key/keyless entry systems.

Exactly!
When I passed my test (I passed first time in 1981, 10 days after passing ma bike test), I had to do a hill start and the guy in front of me nearly rolled back into me |

You shouldn’t have your foot on the brakes at traffic lights, especially in the dark, or indicate for the whole duration of the red light. I’m considerate to those behind me so it’s always parking brake on and will only indicate on an amber light. |

This pisses me. Off too. People who don't indicate at the right time. Iike to know which way the car in front is turning so I can change lanes if need be. |
