I adore pinhead/steel cut oats (the whole grain without being steamed or flattened) it has to cook for a fair while, but so worth the wait!
I top it with cinammon, brown sugar and coarsely chopped pecans. Pure heaven.
Sadly, I lead a mostly grain-free diet as I feel very lethargic after esting any sort of grains, but I used to love it. My staple brekkie when I lived in Ireland! |

"I can't stomach breakfast "
Yes,I used to be like that, but mainly because I'd jump out if bed and out the door most mornings.
Now I'm usually up for a good hour before breakfast, and it definitely sets me up for the day.
(Jesus, what happened to my rock and roll lifestyle! Oh yeah I had a kid)

I'm always up for an hour before I leave for work, but I can't stomach any kind of food before around 9.30 so it doesn't work for me to eat breakfast! |

Used to start my day with a bowl of porridge with a sprinkle of chopped nuts on top when on a calorie controlled diet, fantastic filling start to the day. |

"I hate that slimy stuff that you cook in the microwave though."
Half a cup of porridge, cup of milk in the microwave up to 2 mins, stir after a minute, fantastic, nom-nom! |

Canny beat salty porridge after a night shift. I cook it in the microwave till it's really thick then add loads of milk so it's really watery then drink it x |

I foookin love porridge. If I don't have my porridge, I really feel a lag in my energy through out the day.
It's cheap, full of energy and with a few added ingredients can be very tasty and good for your health as it lowers cholesterol.
I add a little honey and raisins or prunes. I summer it makes a good base for homemade muesli mixed with Greek yoghurt. |

I've tried that, it's better than the slimy stuff but it's no substitute for porridge cooked in a pan for my tastes anyway. If I'm short on time I will go the microwave route with real porridge, I just have to remember to use a big enough bowl, too many times I've opened the microwave door to volcanic porridge |

"Ready brek with golden syrup and blueberries in it "
Used to eat Ready brek morning, noon and night as a little boy until I found out I wouldn't actually go to school with an aura glow around me, true story. |

"I've just had some with cinnamon and honey....dogs bollox"
You had yours with dogs bollox -that would take some swallowing first thing in the morning -talk about a lump in the throat. |

"Jumbo oats, water to cover and a handful of prunes and 2 mins in the microwave "
Since my microwave blew up I've had to make porridge in the olden days way (ie in a saucepan).
I've only burnt it twice.
So far. |

You forget how useful microwaves are
Hope you get another one soon or that you have more luck with the saucepan. Xx |

"Let's hear it for the porridge!
I used to hate it as a kid but now I bloody love it.
Maybe it's a sign of old age, but f@ck it, who cares...
Respect to the porridge.
How do you eat yours?"
It’s for me and has been a soft fulfilling breakfast I could swallow, ( due to throat cancer)
It’s been a bit of s godsend, I’m still eating at least once a day |

"I'm hard-core,no milk. Do like a bit of plain yoghurt on the top sometimes tho."
Think there a recipe you do overnight in the fridge with oats and yoghurt along with fruits, I think! |
