If you haven't heard Iceland's intended Christmas advert has been banned for being too political. Now generally I'm not a big fan of the Iceland chain but fully support them on this one so I urge people to track down their rather poignant advert which is currently linked to from this BBC report:

Yes signed petition to reverse the ban. It is not political, and as said above is very poignant.

I'm just hoping that the social media backlash at the ban means that it gets seen by plenty of people.

I might be being cynical but is this just another PR exercise like the Kleenex Mansize tissues.

I'm amazed that it can be counted as political when it is about the environment and habitat of an endangered species.

perhaps it's too suggestive towards climate change deniers, and other such industrial groups who profit from destruction of natural habitats of certain areas of the world.

All adverts are PR exercises. The banning of it and resulting in further attention, or it being made in the first place are PR exercises - but, if this gets attention on the plight of the orangutan and issues with palm oil based products, then well done Iceland. It will get them as a company publicity, but they’ve actually backed up the campaign by removing palm oil products too, so that’s impressive. Good on them. PR stunts cab do good work.

Ahhh Orangutang...

Personally I don't think it's ideal to politicize Christmas, but the campaign should certain be continued without the Xmas connections. It is horrendous what damage business can do to the world in the name of profit.

I don’t think it even views Christmassy when you watch it, I guess it’s a Christmas ad purely because that’s when shops go big big on their story ads.

technically they are saying its ok to sell you stuff at christmas than spreading a message(one that doesn't have religious leanings either).

Oh and please accept my apologies it appears the BBC we're running the Greenpeace version of the short film not Iceland's. The only difference I could see is the closing text switches from a Greenpeace sign the petition page to the Iceland logo.
