Remember leaving school and going for sweets?

Found an old school sweet shop that sold 1/4's of sweets, original scales but i couldn't find my favourite. What were them sweets that looked like peanuts but were really sweet but had nut's in the middle?

Anyway what was your favourite?

I know what you mean but I can't remember what they were called.

We used to sometimes get 2oz of sherbert pips or Tom thumb drops on the way home from school. They were 6d a quarter so it was 3d.

What about Jamboree bags. A rubbish toy, several very hard sweets and a toffee.

Sweet rationing only ended three years before I was born, our parents were a bit free and easy with sweets. We used to have a Friday night sweet night too but nobody stopped us eating them in the week if they were available.

Apart from sherbet and flying saucers, I don't think there were any sweets from a jar I didn't like.

I loved rhubarb and custards too. Although when I was a kid they were perfectly spherical and I only ever seem to find more oblong-y ones these days and I don’t like them as much, the custard bit isn’t as custardy.
