"I’d love to have a go at doing it but in summer time though
Yeah definitely not in the depths of winter. But I think be okay in late spring and early autumn if it’s not raining"
Oh yes if it’s a nice bright day you can just get layered up |

Been doing it for years. There used to be some awesome hides in your neck of the woods op. I once found one called the big one, it was a huge blue barrel hidden near the old railway tunnel by the Victoria centre and accessed from their car park. Eventually it was removed because of drug users in the area.
Another that springs to mind was one which was hidden in the box hedge at the market square tram stop, again no longer there. Despite knowing what the container looked like and exactly where it was hidden, I never did manage to find that tricky little bugger! |

Oh and op, if you get chance go check out steps back in time if it’s still there. It takes you to the tunnel which links the park estate to derby road, it’s a fantastic location and the history of the tunnel is really interesting |

I really don't understand why you post on threads where you clearly have no interest in the subject..
You can't even blame it on being funny because it isn't |

Love geocaching.....gets me out in the fresh air and beautiful countryside or coast.
And has often taken me to spots I would never have otherwise found or even known about.
Even better with a partner |

Haha I found that one in the square eventually - it took months and months and at at least 4 dozen attempts!
OP there used to be lots and lots of events in the nottingham area, not sure about nowadays though. Have a look on Facebook for geocaching east midlands or GEM. It is a large group of local people who have been caching for years. |

I remember going to try and find that one, with you, a few days after you had already found it. Still couldn’t lay my hands on the bloody thing and neither could you! I used to try and find it every single time I walked through the square, most days really as I worked in town. Never has geocaching frustrated me more than that bloody hide did! |

"So do you use the gps and map on your phones or a proper gps or map and compas? I’m intrigued? They must be 8 or more figure grids? "
I just use out of date OS maps overlaid with zodiac charts |

Nothing wrong with geocaching any time of the year
Going out on a crisp winters day with snow crunching beneath your feet can be just as enjoyable
It's all about getting out and exploring |

Proper gps and phone too. Would probably just stick with phone if the battery life was any good but it’s useless for a full day caching, even with a battery charger pack. First gps unit I had was an etrex 10. When it died I bought the etrex 20.
Really must think about setting some caches around here. I’ve managed to save a few interesting containers with the plan of constructing caches. I used to own a few when I lived in Nottingham but they’ve all been archived now. |

So what do you put in the cache? |

It all depends on the size of the cache. Some are tiny, smaller than a thimble, so can only hold a log book for people to sign when they find it. The biggest I ever found was a huge barrel and had all sorts of stuff inside including giant cuddly toys. The rules for swag are nothing edible or would attract wildlife, make sure it's family friendly as lots of kids go caching and if you take an item you should put in something as a swap that is of equal or greater value. |

Been geocaching for years now. Be great to find some naughty people to go with, put a whole new meaning to FTF and smileys (you'll get it if you're a cacher ) |

I've enjoyed caching ever since seeing it on the gadget show many years back and have done all over the world (back when travel was cheaper and freely allowed lol). It has taken me to places I'd never have seen without it, including a farmers house to meet his wife and kids for lunch in Cuba and a taxi driver getting his machete out and start hacking at the bushes (not a euphemism haha) in Dominican Republic too. |

I haven’t done it for years now. Used it as a way to get out and start walking and getting fitter. It became frustratingly addictive. I wasn’t sure people still did it.
Maybe a fab/swinger geocache could be an added fun to our lifestyle |

I have been to events for this lifestyle where people make themselves available at a certain location.
They may where a grid ref.
What three words
Gps location.
They become the prize
It was nicknamed WHorienteering |

I did one for charity once, find 100 in a weekend, that was a busy weekend, many years ago before counting your steps was a thing, can't begin to imagine how many I did lol.
Definitely going to get back into it, will help no end with the weightloss and it's fun in the process! |
