Wayne Rooney is to be recalled for England's friendly against USA at Wembley in November so that the FA can give him a proper send off and Wazza can raise some cash for his charity.
Are England right to bring him back for this occasion or do you think its a terrible decision?

Well it's just a friendly, He's playing well and if he plays crap in the first half they can always take him off. Can't see the problem unless you are an old fart Like Shilts has made himself look like. |

"Both. Or neither. Not sure!
Ah I’m very much looking forwards to my trip to Wembley for this one! "
were you going to go anyway before it was announced that Rooney was to be recalled or has his inclusion persuaded you to attend?
only 40,000 tickets had been sold for this game before.. |

I’ve been planning on watching this one for a while now and surprisingly I’m looking forward to it an incredible amount for a meaningless friendly! I think there will be a lot of breathless action! |

It shouldn't be under the umbrella of the England fa.
Should be like a 'soccer aid' event.
However, Rooney is bang on form in the soccer USA league so if he wasn't retired might of been recalled anyway.
Most important matter is the money that will be raised for charity |

No, not particularly, I know we did OK, but I thought we played poorly and I just don't get excited about it any more. |

Why do people get so upset when their opinion is asked and then it isn't what you want to see I suppose that's part of being on social media, lol.
Internationals are boring to me, I have no interest in them, so sorry I don't agree with you. I'll make sure to run future posts past you to check you're OK with them. |

It could be the bit telling us you don't care. But still go through the effort of telling us that you don't care. To me it never makes sense.
I think it's an exaggeration to say he was 'so upset'. I'm not either, I'm just guessing at answers to your question.
I still love internationals but then I am Welsh fan and watch all of ours (from the sofa) |

No one's upset.
I can't see the relevance of your comment to the posted question, which was thoughts on Rooney being picked for the England game.
Saying internationals bore you isn't relative.
You might as well have posted "I don't like cabbage".

There and to the left a bit |
Personally I think it's a thinly disguised attempt to boost ticket sales, which had been poor before it was announced, not to mention TV rights with the US.
I'm all for supporting charities but there are better ways of doing so, or make it a charity event but don't include Rooney in the team? Why should he be be singled out over any other great player that has retired from international football? Did Bobby Charlton or Bobby Moore get send off games? To name two players who were part of our greatest achievement? Did Lineker? Who was only a bad Graham Taylor decision away from being our greatest goalscorer?
And to those saying it's a friendly so what does it matter? It's a friendly that is three or four days before a competitive game that could have been used to test another player that still wants to play for his country!!
Likewise saying Rooney is playing well currently - he's doing so in a league far inferior to the Premiership or most of the European leagues!!
I'm not knocking Rooney, he is after all our greatest ever goalscorer currently, but he retired from international football and that should be that, charity or not. Honour him in some way by all means, but not like this. |

Wayne Rooney is England all time record goal scorer , played in 6 major tournaments a record he shares with Sol Campbell and 2nd or 3rd for England caps these are outstanding individual achievements. He made the decision to retire from international football so no I don’t think he should be given a send off game to me it cheapens the England cap he would receive. |

Sort of. He played for England in one of their worst periods ever. He largely banged in goals against shit teams from countries smaller than Birmingham. The team didn't achieve a damn thing and suffered some of the most embarassing defeats of all time.
I'd still give it to him though. |

Ronaldo played a last game for brazil when he was soon to retire or just retired and had piled on the pounds. I think honouring our countries best players is something weve massively lacked and they usually leave in disgrace after a bad tournament. It’ll be good for the younger players to see that changing |

I can see both sidesAs I said his personal achievements are impressive and I think we may be waiting a while for someone to match goals and caps.If England are going to start a trend for England by honouring players what sort of criteria would you look at for this honour of a send off game.If I was going to start this honour of a send off game then I have no problem starting it with Wayne Rooney but my overall feeling if a players choose to retire or is never picked again by the National manager then that should be it. |

When you put it like that, I tend to agree.
Why not give him a testimonial style game with a selected and recognised England squad, so it's a bone fide England game, where all the proceeds go to his chosen charity?

While I can see that would be one way round the problem, the reality is that most clubs wouldn't release their players for such a game, and I think a chunk of the current England squad, those that never played with him, may also question if they want to. So you'd end up with a second or even third string side appearing.
Why not simply use the USA friendly as an all proceeds to charity event and wheel him out at half time for an on the pitch presentation and lap of honour? |

Other than Euro 2004 when he burst on to the international scene i don't think Rooney ever had another decent tournament which was frustrating considering we had players like Lamapard and Gerard and Scholes around him but I can understand why the FA want to give him a send off. |

After some recent progress I think it's a backwards step."
And this is exactly what get my back up.
A forward thinking manager, making progress with a team ... and then brings back Rooney. (Even friendlies count when your trying to get your squad to gel)
Why? For a send off? Just present an award at half time.
Because he’s our top scorer? Bobby Moore lifted the World Cup, he still had to pay for his tickets at West Ham.
F’kin disappointed at this decision to make it into an exhibition match. |

"What’s funny is most of the current England players couldn’t lace Rooneys boots including Harry Kane at his peek Rooney was streets ahead of them "
I bet you none of them could control a ball dropped from a block of flats, play a 1-2 volley with brick wall before volleying it into a skip the other side of the car park.
I used to love that show |

Got a fiver on Sancho to score first.Think we will win 2 or 3-0 against a pretty average USA side.Actually quite looking forward to see in Rooney play for a few minutes,I thought he came across really well in the interview with Gary Neville. |

So Wayne Rooney has had his send off.Top England goal scorer 53 goals , 2nd in terms of England caps 120.If this is a trend that England want to continue for future players what sort of criteria would you set , or should a committee decide if you are worthy / suitable of a send off match. |

Bit of a tricky one because not all players officially retire. The only one in recent times that I feel would have been worthy would be Beckham.I wasn't always his biggest fan it couldn't fault the way he came back from his sending off. |

It will always be a tricky one.If the criteria was say 100 caps then Beckham , Gerrard , Lampard and Ashley Cole would have got a send off but the likes of Gazza , Lineker, Gordon Banks , Alan Ball , Geoff Hurst all miss out yet their contributions to England just as good if not better.Like I said not a easy decision who to give a send off to. |
