WEEK FORTY-FIVE!!!

.

MOTTO: We run #LikeAToddlerChasingAPug

.

.

.

Hey lovely Fab Crap Runners!

It's Week Forty-five!!!

.

.

.

How is everyone doing?

.

.

.

EXPLANATION AND ETHOS:

EVERYONE is welcome in the Fab Crap Runners' Club (the crapper the better).

From 1st January, a bunch of Fabbers began improving their fitness through running. None of them were natural athletes but they did it anyway.

.

.

.

FOR COMPLETE BEGINNERS:

"Couch to 5k" (C25K) is a nine-week running programme for absolute beginners, available on various free phone apps (Mrs T used Get Running). But you can join this thread to get fit by any means including walking and cycling - all are welcome. If you're expecting to be utterly crap at it (I mean reeeeeeeeeally bad), you're in the right place. Join the thread, tell us what your aim is and we'll cheer you on each week, just for trying.

.

.

.

FOR MORE EXPERIENCED RUNNERS:

Tell us what you’re up to with your running, your training and your races. Let’s us know your highs and lows. Please cheer on the newbies and give advice if they ask.

.

.

.

FCRC SOCIAL PARKRUN

I am doing a doodle poll to find out where everyone can get to with ease before organising the next social.

https://doodle.com/poll/77nghmke7uwunrwy

Again, it's completely anonymous and you can vote for as many options as you would like.

Hopefully the regions are self-explanatory (Sorry if you think your county should be in a different region!)

.

.

AND FINALLY:

Who is working towards a specific goal? Tell us your progress

Have done more walk/running this week, my friend and I are getting out at lunchtime. Foot still sore but going to see a man with magic hands soon.

"Park run volunteering yesterday. I'm quite vocal when I marshall and also take speakers and subject runners to my taste in music... Anyway 2 women who haven't been running there long told me that they love when I'm marshaling as I'm so enthusiastic. I was quite pleased with that, I fear most of them think I'm a but odd!

And the delights of Stevenage half today, had a bit of a cold so pleased to get round in 2.07, it's a tough and not particularly scenic route but a great event as it's so well organised so always enjoy it. Absolutely fucked now then "

Well done on volunteering. It's an absolutely vital part of parkrun. Which reminds me, I need to put my name down...

And well done on the half! That's a fantastic time!

It's good that you are still able to get out, but make sure you're not overdoing it!

Yes, I'm a nag...

Hello. Walking Disaster has introduced me to this Group! Thanks ....I hope she isn’t a nag!

At the moment I usually run about 3-4 miles once a week at weekends. Work and commuting makes it difficult during the week unless I treadmill at gym which I hate. I’m hoping for some motivation from this group....and maybe a meet Paul

Welcome to the group Paul. I am sure you will find all the motivation you need on these threads...good luck & enjoy.

P is getting ready for an ultra marathon on Saturday, he came out with me yesterday to help me with my training for a 10 mile race in 2 weeks but he called time after 8.2 miles as I am struggling to recover fully from a chest cold.

We went out this morning for a 3.5 mile quick run, and I felt ok with it besides a coughing fit when returned to a warm house grrr I need this cold to leave now.

Enjoy your running everyone x

P - good luck for your ultra on Saturday! Hats off to you.

C - I hate it when I stop running in this weather. It takes about half an hour before I stop coughing

Thanks all for the welcome! I”ll keep you posted on the next run. I’d like to get back to 10k but can’ decide whether i’m Better building up distance or speed. I tend to go for distance for a few weeks and then find speed is easier. Paul

I generally find it's better to go the distance, then speed up.

Feeling rather soggy after tonight's effort.

At least I managed to get out, if it was just for half an hour

Don't mind it when it starts raining whilst out... But actually going out in the rain is a different matter

I can't do fast, so I have to do long!

My weekday alarm is 05:15, so have to run in the evening. Weekends I get up early too, difficult to shift the body clock, so like to get out early.

I so wanted to run tonight, but got ambushed by a flat pack Ikea wardrobe and a bottle of red!

I flat pack Ikea!! I would have done it for you, whilst you went out "

Now you tell me! Next time I need someone to do it for me, I'll know where to come

I'm pretty good with flat pack furniture too.

I once put together a huge computer desk on my own. It was bigger than me!

"WEEK FORTY-FIVE!!!

.

MOTTO: We run #LikeAToddlerChasingAPug

.

.

.

Hey lovely Fab Crap Runners!

It's Week Forty-five!!!

.

.worked my way up to aeven miles. Very tough lots of hills but pleased to say although slow I did not stop pleased to be able to do it at 50

Tell us your progress"

"

Carrot or Stick, I don't mind! I need to lose 25lbs, and go from parkrun to 50 miles by next April. Help!!!"

Have you ever done anything like this before? 50 miles is a massive step, you can go from next to nothing to being able to get around a marathon in that time frame but that sorry of distance takes a lot of conditioning, mental as well as physical. You need to learn how your body reacts to running on (very) tired legs, how it feels when you use all your glycogen and your brain is doing it's best to make you think you're dying in an attempt to stop you. Best advice is to do your long training runs on tired legs, so a hill session or speed work the day before - or even that morning.

Training for the first 20 miles is easy, it's training for the last 20 that'll be tough

I have yes, got a number of fairly recent 50 & 100 mile finishes to my name, prior to "pizza and couch" phase! I wouldnt really disagree with anything you say, the further you go, the more of a mental game it becomes. I preferred long b2b runs to get that tired leg feeling though, rather than speedwork, was doing 32/16 mile weekends at my peak, which seems a hell of a long way off at the moment. I will get there though!!

Every day still a school day, always grateful for any advice or opinions that are out there. And I always enjoy the first half of a race, as you say it's the second half where it gets interesting!

The only one I can think of from your way is Chrissie? She's a huge advocate of parkrun.

Nope, it's still called the ironman competition. There is no "Iron Woman" competition.
