Went swimming today and felt really self concious around the other people about how I look. Does anyone else get that?

No cos I’m gorgeous.

I have had a few funny looks because of some of the ‘injuries’ I often have though.

I do but that’s CIA everyone else swims around and due to my knee operation my visit to pool is me walking up and down and then running in pool. At moment I can’t swim due to knee pain but when settles will swim lots.

Oh an I get conscious about my fat stomach

Used to be worried, I take the attitude now that if my body offends people it’s their problem not mine. Your body is yours to own, so own it and sod everyone else xxxx

I get really self conscious at the showers as it feels a bit exhibitiony lathering up in front of everyone when you're nearly naked

No, I look around and see that everyone else is more or less the same as me. A young woman got in the pool we go to in a long tee shirt over her costume the other day, she drew far more attention to herself than if she'd just worn her costume. I think it helps to realise that everyone is too busy worrying about themselves to be bothered about other people.

I always feel self conscious in the pool. Nothing to do with how I look in a swimming costume rather my absolutely poor swimming ability.

Lots of us have them its not just you so remember that I would hazard a guess a minimum of 25% of the people in the swimming pool will have body issues but the reality is they see them like you do as bigger than others do. Just smile and try to be happy with what you are there are very few perfect people out there.

I don't, I am what I am. And what makes you think you are important enough for everyone else to be looking at you?

I must admit I envy the really good swimmers who get their hair wet and everything . I doddle up and down with my head out of the water while they flash past olympic style with goggles.

Why self conscious? You look great in your pics and I imagine a lot of other people there were to busy thinking about their own least fave bits being on show to worry about what others look like.

I used to be far less confident about my body, being on here has made me realise other people are far less critical of me than me.

I work on reception of a gym and leisure complex which has a swimming pool and jacuzzi and steam room and sauna etc. I see all kinds of people of all shapes and sizes, no one really gives a shit, once you're in the water you can't really see anyway, it's just the dreaded walk from the changing rooms, recently had an audience of my colleagues all watching me walk from the changing room to the pool, including the guy I fancy!

As a woman of the larger variety you would think I would be self-conscious but I enjoy both swimming and going to the gym. If anyone has any judgement of someone trying to better their health they’re basically the biggest pile of shit on the planet. I suffer from severe anxiety just walking down the street but for some reason I have no worries about walking about in a swimming costume or sweating my fat ass off on the cross trainer.

Stay positive and enjoy your swimming

Nope. I'm probably one of the fattest people in the pool and I don't give a second thought to what I look like.

I don't take much notice of other people either.

Lovely. I made sure the men and boys in our party were out of the way first though, as I didn't want them to feel embarrassed. I didn't want a brown body and white boobs.
