Does making a sport professional ultimately spoil it?
Think about this, athletics would there be as much drug abuse in the sport if it was amateur?
Football are they paid way over the top, now the sport is played by overpaid prima-donnas |

This is always a huge misconception : in the Premier League and to an extent the Championship this might be true, but from League 1 down football is played by, and enjoyed by, literally millions who are anything but over paid prima-donnas! |

Rugby union and athetics and other sorts weren't amature. The only difference was they didn't pay tax it was all backhanders... |

" yeh I’d agree with this, but it makes my point, the top level is way to highly paid, footballers earning £300,000 a week is obscene |

Yes but they are pulling in 70,000 people a week paying £40 a ticket and millions of people around the world are watching on tv. |

i 1000% disagree with this comment on footballers being overpaid and i also think it dsnt spoil a sport if its professional, its in certain people's human nature too cheat regardless of the sport being amateur or professional in my opinion |

"That’s a reasonable point, but I’m using footballers as an example of how money corrupts the game.. the professional sportsman doesn’t care about who he plays for, he’s a mercenary that’s all"
in your opinion? do you realise people cheat at amateur level too? |

Lots of drugs used in amature sport some gyms are rife with it so its nothing to do with professionals. As for what they are paid well its what someone is prepared to pay them to do a job same as in any job really. I know if my boss said here is another 2 million a year I wouldn't be saying no thanks. |

It dosn't corrupt the game that's a fact there is far less bribery and far less betting scandals in the higher echelons of sport and that's a face.

look at it this way.... regardless of anyone's occupation, if someone's son/daughter/wife/husband came home and said theyd been offered £200k a week would your your thoughts be so strongly against it? im sure you wouldn't be saying no refuse it because its obscene, you dont work hard enough to justify that, nurses should get it etc.... by the way i think all you nurses deserve that and more.... i think yous are fantastic xxx |

Unfortunately there are a lot of drug problems in amateur sport, especially rugby union and league.
Professional sport is essentially a vehicle for advertising and a very efficient way of taking money from the poor, always amuses me when people moan about the price of tickets and replica kits as if they are essential to life |
