Is this a thing?

Are they wanted or seen as superfluous?

One paragraph I found distasteful is below.....these poor warriors don't want equality, they want revolution and war and victory. The key motive seems to be more like vengeance for the past over designing a functioning society for all (the discourse around gender is becoming more polarising and disfunctional by the day imo).

*********************

This feels less like the revolution we were promised and like more of the same gender dynamics we’re supposedly stepping away from. You know what does feel revolutionary? Giving women permission to not care about men, and allowing society to center women and make space for their collective healing.

***********************************

I thought it was "all about equality".....ha ha ha ha....that platitude still cracks me...the article is centred on whether male allies aka male feminists are welcome.

Why do people search for stuff that triggers them then start a thread about it.?

People need to examine their relationship with social media..

You find male allies on cringe compilations, it's not triggering.

Anyway let's have a positive discussion.

Maybe some discussion of this paragraph

***********************

The role of men as allies in deconstructing patriarchy feels problematic because it’s reinforcing existing gender stereotypes. It places men in a leadership role and keeps them firmly in their positions of power. Essentially allies are powerful men speaking to other men and asking them to be nice to women. This reinforces the idea that it’s still men’s role to “save” women, without having to give up their power, as part of an outdated and unbalanced hierarchy. Outsourcing this conversation to men is silly. Women don’t need men to represent us at the leadership table; women can represent themselves. It feels like some women are still asking men for permission in the middle of a revolution.

Somewhere out there

Depends what branch of feminism you’re reading... radical feminist theorists have always had, to say the least, some crazy ideas... i.e. how women can be emancipated from the burden of pregnancy and child birth by growing foetuses outside of the body... one thinks we’ll all be cyborgs in a post-sex world... interesting to read, although admittedly I haven’t for a long while... but not all feminists think the same

More to discuss

Are they annoyed that guys can get social gravitas in the right circles by talking about "their feminism" while the label carries some negative images for women that men don't risk (deranged cat lady angry at the world)?

.....women do tend to qualify their feminism (to say "i'm one of the reasonable ones").

**************

While it’s taken women almost 200 years to overcome the stigma of the feminist label and rebrand it as something positive, it’s lent a seemingly instantaneous halo or “pedestal effect” to men. Watching this phenomenon at play gives one a sinking feeling?—?are we making tangible progress by integrating men, or are we falling prey to the same gender dynamics we’re working hard to move away from? There seems an inherent imbalance when what’s taken women centuries of erasure, trauma, and systemic bias to reach becomes a trophy men can gain with a single tweet.

London

I welcome male allies myself. Women still have a shit ton long way to go for equality, which is all most feminists want (besides the ranty, radical types).

I don't see it patronising or belittling to be a feminist fan boy. They tend to be men so confident and relaxed within themselves that they're happy to support women

Oh yes, a white male proclaiming the problems with white males backed up by an aggressive black guy.

All wanting a revolution to stop them from failing in life, despite the fact the main reason there failing in life is all mostly there own making.
