WEEK FORTY-FOUR!!!
.
MOTTO: We run #LikeAToddlerChasingAPug
.
.
.
Hey lovely Fab Crap Runners!
It's Week Forty-four!!!
.
.
.
How is everyone doing?
.
.
.
EXPLANATION AND ETHOS:
EVERYONE is welcome in the Fab Crap Runners' Club (the crapper the better).
From 1st January, a bunch of Fabbers began improving their fitness through running. None of them were natural athletes but they did it anyway.
.
.
.
FOR COMPLETE BEGINNERS:
"Couch to 5k" (C25K) is a nine-week running programme for absolute beginners, available on various free phone apps (Mrs T used Get Running). But you can join this thread to get fit by any means including walking and cycling - all are welcome. If you're expecting to be utterly crap at it (I mean reeeeeeeeeally bad), you're in the right place. Join the thread, tell us what your aim is and we'll cheer you on each week, just for trying.
.
.
.
FOR MORE EXPERIENCED RUNNERS:
Tell us what you’re up to with your running, your training and your races. Let’s us know your highs and lows. Please cheer on the newbies and give advice if they ask.
.
.
.
FCRC SOCIAL PARKRUN
I am doing a doodle poll to find out where everyone can get to with ease before organising the next social.
https://doodle.com/poll/77nghmke7uwunrwy
Again, it's completely anonymous and you can vote for as many options as you would like.
Hopefully the regions are self-explanatory (Sorry if you think your county should be in a different region!)
.
.
AND FINALLY:
Who is working towards a specific goal? Tell us your progress |

My boyfriend competed in the snowdon marathon yesterday, he did really well and beat last year's time but wasn't as quick as he wanted due to cramp kicking in from mile 18 onwards.
I haven't run for 2 weeks due to a cold and chesty cough but went out this morning and although my legs and lungs were in shock I did manage it and am glad to get back to it. I have a 10 mile event in 3 weeks, my first competitive run and I feel nervous but glad to have my boyfriend running it with me for support.
Enjoy your running everyone x |

Hello, my name is Adam and I’m a lapsed Crap Runner.
I did no runs last week, a couple the week before and a couple the week before that, otherwise nothing really since June.
Tonight I did a 5k run again, 36:30 is a minute slower but it didn’t feel difficult even though I finished on an uphill bit. |

Well done both of you!
10 miles is a nice distance; it's enough to push you, but not too far that you have to train really seriously for.
Good luck! Remember to let us know how you get on! |

I saw head torches for £5.00 in Tesco last night..."
A package arrived in the post from China today. Right size for my body lamp. Excitedly tore it open . They have only bloody sent me a rear bike light by mistake |

"Planning for my gym run tonight - maybe a 4 or 5km at about 6.30 a km would be a decent run "
Well due to a change of work plans (bastards), got told at 4pm I had to stay late to review off shore teams work!!! A job I am only covering for person that is off on holiday. Absolutely fuming. Wanted to go to the gym, now too bloody late.
I made it very clear in no uncertain terms I am not doing that again - fucking livid |

I've had another strong couple of weeks. Fast parkrun for 2 1/2 years on Saturday beat a few people who I normally don't and closed the gap to a few others. Loving that after a couple of shit years I;m finally getting back to where I was. I know I'm going well and enjoying it as I enjoying my intervals and hill repeats!
Got a half on Sunday, if I can get back under 2 hours I;ll be more than happy |

It's his second snowdon marathon, he beat his time from last year and was on track for a good time but cramp struck from mile 18.
The atmosphere was awesome, as a spectator and supporter I felt so proud of everyone, my hands were sore from clapping lol. Apparently I even said I wanted to aim for it before I am 50....I hope bf forgets that idea hehe.
He has an ultra in less than 2 weeks time, and another marathon in December.
You should book your place for snowdon next year. Bookings open from 1st December. .....

The thing that puts me off is how far out entries open as it sells out so quick. I'm already booking races 6 or more months in advance, 11 months is a bit extreme though!
One of my friends runs it every year and has done around 40 marathons and ultras and rates it as his favourite so I am tempted. I signed up to the trail one last year that actually goes over Snowdon but had too many injuries in the run up to do it.
Which marathon, I;m doing Portsmouth in Decemnber to round off my year |

I agree 11 months is quite far in advance but does give you a goal to work towards. Pete (my bf) has also run the snowdon trail marathon. I need to give him a nudge and remind him to check this thread and chip in. He gets pre occupied with perving profiles lol
Good luck for Portsmouth |

How can you tell a good shoe from another? Any makes to avoid?
Yes, I will be visiting a couple of shops to try before you buy, but I think the sales assistants see me coming when I walk in and see £££££££££ |

They're are two "big" brands out there - Salomon & Inov8
People will be divided into one camp or the other
Personally I find Sallys too narrow in the forefoot, and I wear Inov8
Have a Google for RunRepeat, and you'll get a lot more useful info and reviews of all brands on there

I overpronate, but I notice that trail shoes don't seem to be split the same way as road running shoes are.
Any ideas why? |

There are very few shoes that aren't "neutral" this is cause of the varied terrain that you usually encounter, the footbed isn't flat very often, so building up the instep isn't much assistance to you, it's more important to have a good fitting heel cup to stop any slipping and be supportive for your ankle
You'll also find that the softer ground means you don't need so much support as you would for a road shoe either.
A lot depends on the type of surface you run on, hard trail, grass, mud, rock, wet, snow and so on |

I overpronate too, so use Brooks Adrenaline Gts for the road, but use their mild trail version of the same shoe called the ASR for our off-road parkrun & canal running. Might be worth a look. |

"My 99th parkrun today
I got 99 parkruns but a beach ain’t one.
Must try Crosby, that looks ace when all the tall boats are around.
Almost at a milestone
I've not seen that one. What's it like?"
I’ve not been, just saw some pics someone shared on FB, but it looks good. It’s a run across the sands, so might be tough on the legs, but the view looked spectacular. Might leave it till summer though |

Did my local parkrun this morning and just didn't feel the love for it.
Had some great runs over the last couple of weeks but didn't have the legs today.
I think my main problem is that I'm never at my best in the morning. After 12 my performance either running or cycling is so much better |

It took me a long time to get used to running in the morning - I prefer evenings too.
I'm certain that I would run pbs all the time if parkruns were a 9pm start |

I don't think I'll ever have my mojo in the morning. 6 years of regular commutes on the bikes proves that; 45 minutes ride in at 6 am and 30 min ride home (normally against the wind) at 5 pm.
I'm certain that I would run pbs all the time if parkruns were a 9pm start "

A bit slower on my 4km today 11 secs but that is about 3 secs per km; that isn’t to bad.
Total 23.37 for a 4km - still at sub 24 mins so happy with that l!!!
Also done some stretching, weights and a cycle as well.

Park run volunteering yesterday. I'm quite vocal when I marshall and also take speakers and subject runners to my taste in music... Anyway 2 women who haven't been running there long told me that they love when I'm marshaling as I'm so enthusiastic. I was quite pleased with that, I fear most of them think I'm a but odd!
And the delights of Stevenage half today, had a bit of a cold so pleased to get round in 2.07, it's a tough and not particularly scenic route but a great event as it's so well organised so always enjoy it. Absolutely fucked now then |
