No disrespect intended. I know this is a sensitive issuse (plus as former Serviceman this time of year is not lost on me) by just examining a line of thinking.
So on social media especially posts about Brexit I've seen lots of posts on the lines of Brexit being a slap in the face to wishes of all those who fought in WW2. Also some making reference to the Government being the same as the Nazis.
Now from my understanding of the WW2 generation I'm not convinced how many fought for the free movement people or closer ties with our neighbours. Many on the whole most likely products of the environment and popular opinion of the day were maybe quite insular in their world view and of foreigners. It was a whole nation that was fighting with many differing political views, ethical values and outlooks towards the future. Many who had simply been unwillingly conscripted or joined to defend the nation and empire as it was.
So for me (A remainer my self) I find it a little disingenuous and distateful to use the memory of the fallen for a political argument that many of their day may not have agreed with. To stay you dishonour the wishes of those that fought by voting Brexit. Also liking the present govement to Nazis I find a little disrespectful to all who lived and died under Nazi tyranny. Also I know the other side of the debate no doubt suggests that Brexit is the sort of Britain they did fight for. I know Brexit and the current govement has been a toxic issue but is it not low blow for either side to say they are representing the voices and memory of the veterans and fallen? |

It's always the fault of brexit. Ask both sides of the interminable ramblings of the talking heads.
Conflating brexit with Remembrance and the wholesale loss of so many lives, and the damage to so many more, over so many conflicts, is just a little distasteful. |

This country fought for a free Europe free of tyranny from a twisted few but in the end we would of been better not getting involved as Europe has done nothing but exploit us since the forming of the European union where France and Germany have been the driving force ,the Germans controlling finance and the French holding us hostage via strikes and blockades of free trade or beef ,transport issues |

"Most people who faught in WW2 had no choice in the matter coz it was illegal not to if you were considered capable."
And many more who should not have fought blagged their way in too..
As a country, the common cause was to defend our Island and ultimately defeat the Nazis.
It is probably the only time there has been unity across Britain...
Can you imagine that happening here today?
We sit back in our heated houses or air conditioned bars and play lip service to the atrocities of war as they play out on a 60" tv, safe in the knowledge it isn't happening here..
Yet a financial decision on whether to stay or go and Christ alive, we are up in arms...
And still the dirty tricks and blatant lies keep coming from both sides..
I recall the joke that the leave campaign made towards the end, thinking they were fighting a lost cause, "the sun will shine more if we leave Europe"..
And now here we are, getting ready to cut ties, cast off and sail away on HMS Great Britain while the memories of those that fought for the freedoms of the people of Europe are being sullied for politics.

"I think the 1000s who died in ww2 did so in vain. Germany rules europe "
What a ridiculous and offensive comment to make!
You need to read history if you wish to refer to it.
If you're dumb enough to believe modern Germany represents the Nazi ideal then God help British education more like!! |

My gradndafter fought in the second world war, helped retake Singapore and hated Europe, voted very strongly against originally joining in the first referendum, so that is taking an absolute liberty as I'm pretty sure most of his group would have felt the same. |
