I just got sucked into a conversation where a bunch of Americans started telling me that Britain was on the verge of becoming a majority Muslim country in "just" 50-70 years.

I managed to get away but I'm just flabbergasted who people can believe such mind numbingly stupid shit. To make it worse, someone introduced me to the group saying "hey you're a bright guy, come meet this group of "independent thinkers". What...the...actual...fuck

Muslims are 4 fucking percent of the country. Yes, there's a high birthrate in the Muslim population, some pretty obvious reasons for that too. Saying the UK will become a Muslim country is like predicting that your child will grow to 40 feet tall after observing their growth in the first two years of life.

Sorry it's not Thursday but i had to get that off my chest. I'm just flabbergasted. I'm now of course thinking of all things I should have said before I left and all the shitty comebacks I should have used. But fuck me, how stupid are people these days.

I live near little America... I'm not that far from the two largest USAF bases in Europe, Lakenheath and Mildenhall, they stand out for being brash even when I'm shopping in the supermarket

They are spoon fed that kinda crap on a daily basis! I have a shit tonne of family over there and some of the ridiculous stuff they post on facebook just makes me understand why I distance myself from the fact I was born there. Out of all of the people I know over there, I think there is one that is not completely taken in by all this guff and she can be hard enough work sometimes

On average, their lower socio-economic status. There's an overwhelming trend that as people move up in socioeconomic status, they have less kids. Average, average, average before people bombard me with the usual anecdotes.

I have just gotten back from a trip to Japan with a stop over in Sweden....

What I find shocking is how politically charged Sweden has become.....

I expected this form of thinking from Americans, Russians , Germans , and Brits.

But not the Swedes....

I’m predicting a ban on the internet unless for commerce only and news programs to only report the news without a panel of experts giving opinions....

The reason I predict this will happen is because people can’t help themselves...

Btw Americans aren’t stupid, we just have 350 million citizens... so the law of averages states there will be more idiots....

My city has a population of muslims (1% of people here class themselves as muslim compared to 0.5% overall in lancashire) but all they've done is build a mosque.

Religion isn't culture. This country is mostly christians yet laws forcing that religion onto us do not exist, they used to but not any more. Like the morals of that religion used to be law, illegal to be gay, illegal to fuck unless married, etc.

In some counries now they are a bit behind us on rights and so these counries the religion dictates everyones life but here we are past that. Doesn't matter if any religion has a large populus because most people aren't being run by them by force. Dunno why people worry about this stuff. Well i kind of do now we are bieng run by a christian government that likes to take away peoples rights but stop voting for them then.

I often wonder about these claims. Seems to me that the future of Islam in Britain has more to fear from enlightened thinking and freedom of thought than Britain has of Islamic dominance. The same as any relgion in an enviroment where it can be challenged and tested again rational reason. I know many Muslim freinds who are 2nd/3rd generation immigrants who are or are almost atheist. They mainly only go through the motions of their faith out of respect for their elders and community pressure.

Mostly I think the problem is that there's a lot of disinformation being put out at the moment and social media in particular helps spread it. If it speaks to someone they are unlikely to question it because that's how the human mind works. Imagine what it would be like in the UK without the BBC and it's enforced 'neutrality' and people had to rely on the papers and Sky for their information.

The other part is that whites in the USA are within a generation of becoming a minority, the biggest minority to be sure, and it's unsettling a lot of then. Along with the ever helpful Russians I've heard that this impending loss of majority is what, possibly subconsciously, lead to a lot of white Americans voting for Mr Trump. 'Keep America White' as it were. So there's a big push back by white, Christian men against all things that aren't white, Christian and male and a lot of people buy into it as they are about to lose their rather privileged position in society. For some reason a lot of activists in the USA like to use the UK as an example of how bad things are or will be. Probably because it's a bit like the USA but no one goes there so have no first hand experience when absolute bollocks is used in an argument. See the way some were slagging off the NHS despite the longer life expectancy in the UK and the references to police no-go cities like Birmingham! Humans simply aren't equipped with a decent bullshit filter (which does raise some serious concerns for the future of democracy).

He would often randomly blurt out something regarding Jews and how he hates them but this day his blurt was about how Muslims are going to take over the world one day.

The answer to this is that most Halal meat in this country is pre-stunned, ie the slaughter process is the same as "secular" meat, except some beardy dude says a prayer. Ergo, a lot of meat can be marketed as Halal.

If Muslims want non pre-stun, they have to look for it. Kosher meat can never be pre-stunned so it's harder to find.

What I do know is that the local Mosques have services all through the day and evening and they are well attended .

I’ve also worked with plenty of Muslims who do pray 5 times a day , and I’ve yet to meet any swinging Muslims .

Infant mortality.

It's not a religious or class thing, but down to the fact that if children are unlikely to grow up, parents have more.

Look at British families, of all classes, in the victorian era.

It usually takes a couple of generations of all children reaching adulthood for the birthrate to drop to approximately two children per family. So the children of immigrants from countries with high infant mortality will probably have a large number of children, but grandchildren of immigrants probably will not.

Some religions, such as catholism may ban contraception and encourage large families, but I know Catholic families with only two children and I'm sure that Muslim families are similar.

You're right, my mistake!

I think you're also right that there is a larger percentage of observant Muslims, then observant Christians. I've known sone swinging Muslims and they still observe Ramadan, attend the mosque etc, which is slightly curious.

I think the reason is ethno/cultural rather than religious. Religion is tied up with membership of particular ethnic groups in the way that simply isn't the case with the white British.

It's similar to those of Irish Catholic background. Katie is one of them. She doesn't believe in God, is actually less nuanced in her views on religion than me, buy had her daughter baptised and attended mass so she could get in a Catholic school!

You sound angry, I wouldn't let people's opinions affect me in such a negative way. Just ignore, it's only an opinion of theirs and they believe theirs with as much conviction as you believe yours. Arguing with them wouldn't change your opinion and neither will you coming on here and having a rant change their's. It's pointless, a waste of energy. Muslims have been in the UK since about the 13th Century and yet they still only make up 4% of the entire UK population. What these ignorant people also fail to take into account is quite a few British Muslims are Westernized. They don't wear burqas, eat during ramadan etc etc. Census stats show that religion is dying out. Inbetween the last 2 Census shows that the Non Religious group was by far the fastest growing group. In 10 years it went from i think it was 14% Non Religious up to 27% in 10 years. I see exactly where the Americans get it from though. Places like FOX News show a video of 1 street with Muslims on it and they make it look like that 1 street is the entire UK. lol I remember when FOX news was forced to apologise a couple of years ago when they claimed no white people could enter Birmingham England as it was a Muslim only zone. The people of Birmingham instantly shot that nonsense down and made FOX issue an apology. lol
