DPC Warranty

We had a full Damp Proof Course done back in '93 with a 30 year warranty,as most DPC's have.A couple of years ago it started to get damp patches on a couple of walls. We ignored it and it got worse. We contacted the contractor who had since been taken over but was still operating under the original name.He said it was nothing to do with him and told us to contact the chemical suppliers. We did, they said it was down to the contractor but would check it out at a cost of £150 redeemable if they were found to be at fault, yeah right!Next stop trading standards...and heres the rub....they told me there was nothing they or us could do.Apparently, the Government in its infinite wisdom made all DPC warranty's before 2003 null and void.Brilliant eh? Nice to know the Government are looking after the rights of Joe Public.Anyway, everyone we told was unaware of this and it occured to us many folk on here may be too.

I can tell you are not very happy about this.

Like most warranties and guarantees, they ain't worth diddly.... :o(

Had a roof that ran with water down the inside, that was only a few years old. Do you think anyone would take responsibility?

Oh no.

There is a whole estate of houses that got cavity wall insulation done a few years ago not a million miles from us,..and it seems 80% of them have damp problems that they didnt have before,...we only found out when we were in the prosses of looking into the possiblity of having it done ourselves.

People should be very careful about any sort of damp / insulation work done to your property, its good when its good,.. its a nightmare when its not, because it cant be got at to fix

This DPC was done as part of a grant, done through the local council. So we wonder if,as the council paid some towards it,there was any chance that they could get recompense. The council put the proofing company onto us because they used them a lot.If they're still being used by the council they may think it worth their while sorting our job out, otherwise it could jeapardise their council contract. Its worth checking out.
