According to Fab.
Dozens and dozens of replies on the "favourite comedian" thread and I only spotted one nomination for a woman.
Don't start throwing "nobody mentioned comedienne" at me either. |

I avoided that thread as the tastes of the majority of blokey comedy makes my skin crawl.
French & Saunders, Kathy Burke, Victoria Wood, Julia Davis, Katherine Ryan, Joan Rivers, Lucille Ball, Hannah Gadsby, Roisin Conaty, Ruby Wax. Funny women. |

Fave comedian doesn’t mean ONLY comedian that makes us laugh!
There’s a couple of ladies on here that I speak to that are genuinely hilarious, very quick witted and who make me laugh regularly!
I find that some ‘commercial’ female comedians aim their act primarily at the female market or tailored to female type issues and subjects, so ladies will ‘get’ the in jokes and humour better than us men on the whole. Maybe? I dunno, just trying to rationalise it! |

I would suggest that 100% of the female comics on tv are very funny where as maybe only 30% of male comics are very funny, 20% are mediocre and the remaining 50% are bloody awful..
Take from that what you will..
Also historically comedy has always been male dominated with the odd female being accepted. Things are slowly changing but it will take years to address the balance.. |

Not 100% - Sarah Millican, about as funny as a burst blister when running a marathon |

Sharon Horgan's work strikes a chord with me, she's brilliant.
Tv comedy had become saturated with mostly male panel shows 'supposedly' ad-libbing. It's become stale and needs a shake-up.

Is it wrong to say she's hot |

Funny how tastes differ, some great female comedians but for whatever reason the number is small. I have to say Roisin Conaty really is not funny in any way! |

Only one woman has ever been remotely amusing and is the late great Victoria Wood.
Her songs and her sketches were hilarious and her writing in Dinner Ladies was so accurate and funny.
With this very creditable exception there are no women who are genuinely funny in a consistent fashion.
Occasional quips of those who fleetingly pass but largely none.
Equally it must be said that there are barely only 3 or 4 male comedians who are worthy of being regarded as truly funny.
The current format of standing up on stage and simply relaying your own experiences of that day or last weekend are beginning to wear thin and become tediously not funny.
Let's go back to telling jokes or one liners. |

Aisling Bea, Sara Pascoe, Luisa Omeilan, Sharon Hogan, Kerry Godliman, Jen Brister, Diane Morgan...just a few great female comedians on tour, tv and radio right now.
Not of course including the legends like Victoria Wood, Joyce Grenfell, French & Saunders, Tracey Ullman, Linda Smith... |
